CHAPTER 10 — She knows

I’d tried being nice, but she’d pushed too far. “I won’t be the one dying tonight,” I said. “Try it — and I’ll break every bone in your body without breaking a sweat.” “Like you can even lay a single finger on me,” she said. “You’re delusional if you think so.” We began fighting. I blasted her with an ice blast — nothing again. It wasn’t affecting her at all. She was a lot stronger than me. I had to strategize, come up with a way to slow her down. The lightning blasts were really hurting. I needed to figure out how to defeat her. Clearly, my ice blasts were doing nothing. “I know what you did,” Becky said. “You let them die.” “Becky, I don’t understand. Why do you keep saying that? I tried my best to save them. What did you want me to do — go in after them? Had I done that, we wouldn’t be here right now. I wouldn’t have the chance to save you.” “Save me? Is that what you think you’re doing here? No. You’re here to remind me of what I lost — what you took from me.” “I took nothing from you.” “You took everything from me! Don’t you understand? They were my life. You took my life. Now I’m going to take yours.” She struck me with a blast. “That’s for my friends.” Everything went black. When I woke up, I could barely breathe. “You think we’re going to let you out?” a voice said. “Think again. You’re our weapon.” “I killed my best friend,” Becky said weakly. “Made her think I didn’t even know her. And you’re telling me I don’t get to go home?” “After all that you did for us? No. You’re not going anywhere.” “Let me go now,” she said. “If you don’t, things will go very bad for you. Or did you forget — I have powers now.” “Did you forget we’re the ones who gave you those powers? You know everything about them — and you barely know how to use them.” “If you don’t listen to me,” Becky said, “I’ll reject my powers. Your ‘weapon’ will be nothing more than a useless decoration.” “A useless decoration, huh? What you’re not thinking about is… we can make another. And just get rid of you.” She went silent. “So think wisely before you act,” they said. “Because there will be consequences. Boys, take her to her cell.”
