LostOne afternoon, Alessandra and Beyan were making the patients’ beds when Goran came looking for them. He ordered them to take the afternoon off, since they had a mission to complete that night, after dark: there was a wounded man in need of their assistance, but they could only try to retrieve him once it was completely dark.
Around nine o’clock Goran met them in the canteen tent. They finished their tea and got ready: all three put on their bullet proof vests, which were compulsory for all nurses and doctors in the field; Goran loaded a stretcher onto the pick-up; Beyan took two Kalashnikov rifles in the cabin and Alessandra put on her medical backpack. She filled it with two flasks of water, some disinfectant, bandages and small extendable steel splints, as Goran had instructed her.
