When we finish stacking all the wood by the fire place Jack sits on the couch looking exhausted.
“Sooo, what do we do now?” I ask because even though he might be tired.. I’m not.
“Relax?” He looks at me like that should be the obvious answer
“That’s no fun” I pout
“What would you like to do? And do not say watch TV” he says rubbing his forehead
“Do you have any games?” I ask perking up at my own idea
“I live here alone” he looks over at me as if he’s saying ‘no dumb a** I obviously don’t have any games’.
“Oh come on you must have something” I say throwing my hands up
He lets out a huff and rubs his hands over his face.
“I have a deck of cards and a chess set” he was holding out on me
“Well lucky for you I know how to play chess and I know an abundance of card games” I say putting my hands on my hips
“That’s lucky for me?” He scoffs but he gets up off the couch and goes to his room.
After a minute I think he might not be coming back but then he walks in with a chess set and deck of cards. His hair is wet so I’m assuming he showered. My mouth runs dry because he has on a tight fitted black shirt and pair of grey sweat pants.
“Here are the games you requested, Princess” he says sarcastically
I stare at him for a little too long and he raises his eyebrow at me snapping me back into reality.
“Oh yeah, right, thanks, are you any good at chess?” I ask trying to keep my eyes off of him
“I haven’t played in a while but yeah I’m pretty good” he shrugs
He sits on the couch while I go around the table and sit on the floor across from him so I can set the chess board up.
“Black or white?” I ask him
“Lady’s choice” he says
“Ok then I’ll be black you can be white” He already looks bored.
We sit and play for what feels like hours. I beat him six times before he finally got mad and refused to play me anymore. I thought for a second he was going to flip the board over.
“Wishing you’d left me to freeze in my car?” I say with a laugh
“I’m debating taking you back to it right now” he cuts his eyes at me. Note to self, Jack doesn’t take losing well.
He stretches against the couch and when he does I can see the outline of his c**k through his sweats. I’ve only ever seen one in my life and it was a lot smaller than that. I panic and sling the chess board pieces all over the floor.
“S**t!” I exclaim
I start crawling around to get all the pieces and Jack joins me. We end up reaching for the same piece our heads crashing together when we both go for it.
“Oww” I say putting my hand over the spot that where our heads collided
“F**k” Jack grabs his head too “You have a hard head” he rubs at the spot which makes me laugh
I put the chess set back in the box while Jack settles back into his spot on the couch. I wonder if I can convince him to play cards with me now.
“Who taught you how to play chess?” Jack asks
“My dad did” I say raising my eyes to meet his
I stand up because I just realized my parents must be freaking out. I never showed up and they can’t get in touch with me. I shouldn’t have made that joke to my mom I know she must be worried sick.
“Are you ok?” Jack asks sounding concerned coming to stand next to me
I shake my head no as tears start forming in my eyes.
“My parents must be freaking out. I made a stupid f*****g joke about dying on the way there to my mom and I regret it now.” I don’t look at him because if I do I know I won’t be able to hold back my tears.
“Hey its ok” he says putting a hand on my shoulder “I promise as soon as the snow clears enough I will take you to your parents cabin” Him saying that really does make me feel better
“Maybe when you take me my dad will show you how to play chess” I joke because that’s how I deal with awkward situations
“I know how to play chess” He says sternly and I have to press my lips together to keep from laughing
“No, yeah you are great” I say while shaking my head no
“Well how about you just play with yourself from now on” I raise my eyebrows seeing when Jack registers what he just said
I burst out laughing when his face goes red and turns into a scowl. I’m honestly kind of happy I’m here.
