Birthday plans

660 Words
The blanket was ripped off me waking me from my slumber. It was the morning of my birthday and per werewolf law I no longer had to abide by their rules as I never was initiated into the pack. Meaning, I was no longer their slave. “Get up you useless b!tch! Why are you still in bed?” Kako screamed next to me. Before I had a chance to move I was pulled from my bed and thrown to the floor. Thankfully the cold temperatures of the basement stopped me from sleeping in anything less than a full set of very used pajamas. “It's my 18th birthday Kako! I no longer have to work for you and I’d like to leave the pack.” “It's Alpha Kako you disrespectful creature! Over my dead body will you be leaving this pack. Now get to work!” Kako stormed off up the stairs. Realizing my misery would not yield to my birthday I gave in. After getting myself ready I made my way up the stairs, knocking three times to be released. To my surprise Sylvia opened the door. “Did you grab everything you need? Surely you have more than that! No worries, I packed you a small bag. I'm getting you out of here,” she whispered. By this time I would be cleaning the beta’s quarters anyways so nobody thought twice about seeing Sylvia and I walking together. Nobody expect Beta Xain who rushed over when he witnessed the two of us. “What do you think you are doing Olivia? You are meant to be cleaning not socializing and Sylvia, what are you thinking associating with the likes of her?!” “Lay off Xain. It's her birthday so I wanted to find out more about her. We know nothing of her history yet you and Alpha Kako treat her worse than dirt,” Sylvia replied. “You're worse than Sara. Bring her back to our quarters and I expect it to be spotless!” Xain roared before walking off. “How I was mated to him I'll never understand. I hope you have better luck than Sara and I,” Sylvia solemnly spoke. We headed up to her room and I remained silent the entire way. As we entered the first thing I noticed sent tears streaming down my face. Sara sat on the bed holding a bag. Her face was red from crying. I rushed over and immediately hugged her. I hadn't seen her since that day 14 years prior. The years had not been kind and she looked worn and beaten. “What are you doing here Sara?” I questioned. “I'm coming with you Olivia. I'm so sorry for abandoning you. I loved you as if you were my own daughter but when Kako claimed me as his mate I put the bond first, neglecting you. The guilt I have not only for you but for Alpha Xerces has been killing me all these years. I need to leave this pack and start new. I'm going to reject Kako right before we leave tonight, “ Sara replied between sobs. I knew rejecting a mate could lead to death but seeing Sara's already frail state I wasn't sure which path would be better. “Are you sure? Life appears to have been cruel to both of us but rejecting the mate bond, you know what could happen,” I stated. “We've talked this through. You do not know the way the Alpha treats her, Olivia. If she stays after you escape she will die. This is her best chance. I wish I could join you two. Xain is not much better but unlike Kako he does love me. He's just very tough on the pack and loyal to Kako,” Sylvia chimed in. So, the decision had been made. Sara and I would be leaving tonight.
