Escape

At 11pm I waited by the basement door listening for the sound of the latch releasing. After everything I had learned during the earlier meeting with Sylvia and Sara I could no longer deny their help. Sara had been badly abused since the day she met Kako. He did not believe in having a mate for companionship or love. His only reason for not rejecting Sara was to enhance his power. Werewolves with fated mates are far stronger than those without. Soon after finding that Kako was her mate Sara learned she was barren, unable to have children. After the former Beta overtook the pack he needed a child as a successor when he no longer was able to be Alpha. He had many affairs and multiple children. Due to the mate bond Sara could feel every time he was unfaithful, like a dagger to the heart. After some time it became too much for her and she attempted to take her own life. Thankfully a maid found her unconscious next to an empty pill bottle. She survived. After that her life only became worse. Alpha Kako had her locked in a room adjacent to his. She was not allowed to leave or socialize. I cleaned the Alpha quarters every day but the room was well hidden. He would visit her daily and take advantage of her broken state just to leave her on her own. Sylvia learned of what was occurring through her mate, Beta Xain. After she and I had the conversation of my birthday escape, Sylvia managed to sneak a key from Xain and found Sara in her hidden sanctuary. That was when the plan fully came together. She just needed me on board. Suddenly, I heard the door click. Slowly it opened revealing a confident Sylvia and a terrified Sara. We quietly made our way to the doorway. Outside I could see a dark SUV waiting. “That's your ride. I know neither of you can drive so I bribed a guard to take you to the boarder. He will instruct you, Olivia, on how to handle a vehicle and from there you two are on your own. I truly hope you both find everything you're looking for.” We exited the pack house before saying our goodbyes. “Thank you, Sylvia. One day I will repay you for your kindness. I think it's time we go,” I said to the strong woman in front of me before hugging her tightly. Sara had no words, just embraced Sylvia before getting into the SUV. As I entered the front passenger side shouting could be heard from inside the house followed by a loud snarl. Before I could even close my door fully the driver hit the accelerator. Looking back I witnessed a large grey wolf leaping from the pack house before turning to Sylvia who immediately shifted. I’d seen Kako's wolf before. He was a deep brown. This must have been Xain. Sylvia had not been lying when she'd said her wolf could kick his ass. As soon as she shifted into her beautiful honey colored wolf Xain submitted. I knew Sylvia would have allot to answer for but for now I was relieved we were on our way to freedom. After about twenty minutes we approached the pack boarder. This was not only where I was to take over as driver but also where Sara was to reject Kako and cut ties with the Silver Dawn pack. The driver pulled over. “This is where I'll leave you ladies. I do not know your circumstances but if Beta Sylvia is on your side I'm sure this is the right decision. Best of luck,” the tall dark haired man spoke before shifting and heading back to the pack house. “We need to hurry Sara. We don't know how long we have.” As I finished that sentence a loud howl could be heard in the distance. We had less time than we initially anticipated. I grabbed Sara's hand. “You can do this. I'm going to be with you every step of the way. We will find ourselves. You brought me joy as a traumatized child. It's my turn to help you,” I softly spoke. “I… Luna Sara Silverstone reject Alpha Kako Black of the Silver Dawn Pack.” With each word her confidence grew. Another howl could be heard, closer this time but filled with agony. It was Kako feeling the pain of the mate bond breaking. Surprisingly Sara stood strongly. “I, Sara Silverstone, cut all ties with the Silver Dawn Pack,” she nearly shouted. No pain could be seen on her features. Instead a strength radiated from her, a strength I had never seen before. Quickly, I scooted over to the driver's side where I tried to remember the tips the guard had given. Right was accelerator, left was brake, D was drive. Putting the large SUV into gear I pressed my foot down onto the accelerator sending us flying forwards before I slammed on the brakes causing both Sara and I to scream. I could do this. Knowing the wolves were likely still chasing us I did not have time to recuperate. My anxiety was spiking as I slowly lowered my foot onto the gas peddle. This time we creeped forward. I took my time increasing our speed before my confidence took over and we were flying down the dirt road. Now, I just had to find my old pack and the woods surrounding it.
