Josh stepped into the large foyer and shrugged off his coat. The house was quiet as usual. Sometimes he wondered if his family even lived here. It seemed more like a monument than an actual home—everything was always in perfect place to the point that the house didn’t look lived-in.
“Joshua!” It could only be one of two people; only his parents called him by his full name. Josh turned from the coat closet to see his mother, a slender woman in her fifties, walking toward him with a smile on her face. Celia Roman was a beautiful woman both inside and out and could have had her choice of any man to marry. How had she ended up with his father instead?
“Hello, Mother.” She reached him and turned her cheek to him for a kiss. Josh obliged.
