“Earth to Josh.” Josh turned his head to see one of his fellow chief residents, Stan Temple, a skinny young man with a prominent potbelly standing next to him. Josh was in the ER because he had received a page from his junior resident about a patient that had arrived with a complicated lower extremity fracture.
Josh was responsible for any trauma-related orthopedic cases that arrived through the ER, since he was the chief resident of the Trauma Orthopedic Surgery service. He had reviewed the case and consulted with his attending who had also agreed that the patient needed surgery immediately. He was now updating his notes about the case at one of the computer terminals at the ER central nursing station.
