Chapter 2 Assassination

1432 Words
In the dim and empty dining room, Colin carefully undid his shirt and examined the wound on his chest by candlelight. The wound had not yet healed, nor had it been treated in any way. Yet not a trace of blood had escaped. For, he could now control the blood throughout his body. Perhaps, this was one of the vampire's natural abilities. Colin pressed on both sides of the wound and gently pulled to either side. "Hiss-" A tearing pain made him suck in a breath of cold air. However, Collin was somewhat pleased. At least it meant that his nervous system was still functioning well. It made Colin feel like he wasn't so different from a normal person. The wound was pulled open into a small hole, and through it, Colin could clearly see his heart. It, no longer beat. Well, this was a little different from normal. Colin was a little sad. "Hey..." With a sigh, Collin let go of his hands and let the wound slowly close together with the pull of his muscles. It wouldn't bleed anyway, so there was no need to bandage it. It just needed to be watched to see how long it would take to heal - if it would ever heal at all. To be honest, Colin had woken up this morning and had panicked for a while when he'd found the dagger stuck in his chest. At that point, he thought he was afraid he was going to be the biggest loser ever to cross over - to die right after he arrived. But then he realised that he couldn't die ...... The heart was stabbed through, and still he couldn't die. As for who actually stabbed him in the heart, Colin has no idea at the moment. This time through, Colin managed to inherit the memories of his predecessor. From these memories, he did not find out who was trying to kill him either. However, Colin already had some ideas on how to draw out this killer hiding in the darkness. But it was not urgent. Right now, he was more interested in this new, suspected vampire body he had inherited. Re-buttoning his shirt, Colin turned his attention to the last of the food on the long table - garlic. Vampires were said to fear garlic. In his previous world, Collin had known little about the vampires that filled the pages of fiction and film, and he had no idea what setting the vampires in this world actually followed. There was no choice but to take his time and experiment. Colin sliced off an ant-sized piece of garlic with his dinner knife and then carefully put it into his mouth. "Vomit!!!" Colin vomited dryly. It seemed that the vampires in this world were also afraid of garlic. "Young Master Colin, are you alright?" The maid who was guarding the door heard the commotion and rushed in to check. "I'm fine ...... vomit!" "Young master, I am afraid you are ill. I'm going to get Reverend Miguel ......" "No!" Hearing the word priest, Colin almost jumped up in shock and rushed out to stop it, "No need ...... I'm fine ......" "Really? But ...... but you look really pale today and now you're throwing up ......" "I said, no need!" Colin rubbed his stomach and forced down the desire to vomit W while glaring at the maid at the door with a malevolent look. Seemingly frightened by the stern look in his eyes, the maid did not dare to insist, so she left in a hurry with the words "Take care of your health then". "Phew..." Colin breathed a sigh of relief and leaned back in his chair to catch his breath. A vampire looking for a priest? That was sick! Although priests in this world didn't necessarily restrain vampires, Colin wouldn't dare test his life on them. At least not now. Perhaps later, when he was fully prepared, he would try out the church of this world. But, never now. After a long while, Colin finally calmed down. He picked up his quill and continued writing on the roll of parchment: [Aversion to garlic, ingestion will cause vomiting.] Feeling the changes in his body, Colin added to the paper: [But not fatal.] Gazing at the block letters on the parchment, Colin frowned again. Not true. Colin looked at the clove of garlic in front of him and suddenly realised that he had just ingested just a tiny little piece ...... It was a matter of dose. A small amount may not be fatal, but if too much is consumed ...... Colin looked at the whole garlic in front of him and his face turned a little green. He didn't want to try it again. Forget it, just stay away from garlic in the future. Dwelling on it for a moment, Colin decided to put an end to this dangerous experiment. Rolling up the parchment into his pocket, Colin got up and left the dining room. The maid who was outside the hall bowed when she saw him. "Clean up." Colin glanced at the maid who dared not look at him, "Don't tell anyone about this." "Yes, young master!" Crossing the long, dimly lit hallway, Colin returned to his bedroom. It was still early and Colin sat down at his desk. There was a book spread out on the desk - The Chronicles of the Shining Empire. Colin had read this book when he was a child, but his memory was no longer clear. Now that he had travelled back in time, he decided to study it again in order to understand the world better and to find out any hints that vampires might have existed. However, it was ultimately in vain. There was nothing in the book about vampires at all. It was a good thing that Colin hadn't come up empty-handed and had reviewed the history of this human empire. Over fifteen hundred years ago, Garner Lorenzo, the legendary paladin who served the Lord of Light, completed the unification of the human race and founded the Empire of Light as its first emperor. To defend the empire from foreign enemies, Garner made six paladins under his command dukes and ordered them to garrison the four corners of the land and to expand the territory beyond. Thousands of years have passed, and now only four of the six original dukes remain. The Northern Realm, where Colin is located, is currently the domain of Duke Hild, one of these four dukes. The North was originally the domain of the Trolls, but they had long since been driven further north by the Hildes to the Ice Vault. Unhappy with their defeat, the trolls are determined to reclaim this rich land and almost every year they launch a southern expedition. This year is no exception. And it is on the front line of this war that Colin's father, Baron Angler, is currently fighting. ---------- As the night wore on, the candelabra on the desk was extinguished and the bedroom fell silent. Only Colin's steady, soft breathing could be heard, and the distant call of an owl from outside the Grey Castle. As dark clouds blocked out the moonlight, a dark figure appeared abruptly at the foot of Colin's bed. He looked at the sleeping Colin and a look of puzzlement flashed across his face. For he remembered clearly that last night he had clearly plunged a dagger into Colin's chest. How come he was not dead? The dark shadow was puzzled. Yet he did not hesitate. Silently, he drew out the dagger and slowly placed it above Colin's chest. At that moment, he suddenly remembered that someone had once told him that While the vast majority of people's hearts are left-sided, there are a few who are right-sided. So, this time, he quietly moved the dagger in his hand some distance to the right. "Giggle!" The dagger pierced viciously into Colin's chest. The pain was so great that Colin woke up from his dream and was about to scream when his mouth was tightly covered by a pair of large hands. "Oooh ...... oooh ...... oooh ......" Collin's eyes widened in horror as he stared deathly at the assassin before him. He recognised him! After a few moments, Colin's struggle subsided. But the dark figure did not let down his guard. He waited a full ten minutes before removing the hand that covered Colin's mouth. He then drew the dagger from Colin's chest and added another slice to his throat. Now, you should die.
