Chapter 13: The Agony of Transformation

467 Words
The forest burned crimson under the setting sun, shadows stretched long like claws. Elena knelt inside the circle of light Lysandra had drawn, breath ragged, heart pounding. “Tonight, you will attempt your first full shift,” Lysandra said sternly. “Not halfway, not fleeting sparks. A complete transformation. You will meet the wolf in your blood.” Elena clenched her fists. “I… I’m ready.” Yet fear coiled inside her like a serpent. Planting her staff into the ground, Lysandra traced ancient runes. “Remember this: pain is part of the path. It will tear you apart. Resist, and it will destroy you. Yield, and the blood of the wolf will lead you.” The first silver ray of moonlight touched Elena. Her body convulsed violently. Bones cracked, blood surged like fire. “Aaahhh!” Elena screamed, clawing the dirt until her nails split and bled. Her spine arched, shoulders snapped, golden eyes blazing in the dark. The agony was like knives piercing every inch of flesh. “Breathe! Elena, breathe!” Lysandra’s voice roared, distant and echoing. Inside her mind, a massive white wolf emerged. Its icy blue eyes locked on hers—the true soul of the White Wolf. Do you dare accept me? the growl thundered. Elena writhed, nearly consumed. She wanted to run, to shout “No!” But memories surged—Damien’s rejection, the jeering pack, scornful gazes. Her teeth ground together. “I… will not give up!” A roar shattered the night. The White Wolf lunged at her. Pain reached its peak as Elena collapsed, white fur sprouting, claws tearing through her skin. Then, her human form dissolved. In the circle’s center, a radiant white wolf stood beneath the moon. Elena panted, chest heaving, but pride burned in her heart. She had shifted—fully. Yet control lasted only seconds. Power erupted. She snarled, crashing into trees, tearing wildly. “Elena! Control yourself!” Lysandra’s magic circle flared to hold her, but the White Wolf’s power was too fierce, the barrier trembling. Inside Elena’s mind, there was only roaring and blinding white light, instincts tearing her apart. Then, a faint whisper: You are not weak. You chose this path. Her body froze. Slowly, her golden eyes dimmed, breaths harsh but calming. Finally, she collapsed, shifting back into her human form. Naked, drenched in sweat and blood, yet in her eyes flickered unyielding fire. Lysandra draped a cloak over her shoulders. Her voice was both warm and sharp: “You did it. You have faced your true soul. But remember—this is only the beginning. From now on, there is no turning back.” Elena closed her eyes, exhausted. Yet deep inside, for the first time, she no longer felt like the weak girl mocked by the pack.
