Klein left the Titan's Fist Guild Hall with more questions than answers.
The walk home felt longer than usual, his mind replaying Boomer's words over and over. The offer was tempting, but something held him back.
"What would Storm think?" Klein wondered aloud, then shook his head. Storm had told him to do whatever he wanted. This was his choice to make.
When he arrived home, he found his grandfather, Adonis, sitting in the living room. The old man looked up from his newspaper, his wrinkled face breaking into a smile.
"You're back early," Adonis said. "How did it go?"
Klein sat down across from him. "They want me to join."
"And?"
"I don't know, Gramps." Klein leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees. "Part of me wants to say yes. They're different from other guilds. But another part of me thinks I should stay independent."
Adonis set down his newspaper, his expression thoughtful. "You know, your father faced a similar choice once."
Klein looked up, surprised. His grandfather rarely talked about his father.
"He was offered a spot in one of the top guilds when he was your age," Adonis continued. "Turned them down flat. Said he didn't want anyone telling him how to live his life."
"What happened to him?"
Adonis's expression darkened. "He died in a Dungeon Gate three years later. Went in alone, thinking he could handle it." He paused, his voice heavy. "Pride can be a dangerous thing, Klein. Sometimes, having people around you isn't about weakness. It's about survival."
Klein sat back, letting the words sink in. He'd never thought about it that way.
"I'm not saying you should join," Adonis added. "But don't let pride make your decision for you. Think about what will actually make you stronger."
Klein nodded slowly. "Thanks, Gramps."

That night, Klein couldn't sleep. He stared at the ceiling, thinking about everything...Boomer's offer, his grandfather's story, and his own goals. He wanted to get stronger, but was joining a guild the right path?
His system interface flickered to life, unprompted. Klein sat up, surprised. The screen displayed his current stats:
STATUS:
Name: Klein Slash
System: Divine Archfiend System
System Level: 11
System Grade: S
Mana: 2000
Attributes: Chaos
Title: Storm's Inheritor
Klein studied his stats. Level 11 put him among the elite, but it wasn't enough. Not if he wanted to face real threats. Not if he wanted to protect his family.
A notification appeared:
NEW QUEST AVAILABLE: PUSH YOUR LIMITS
Description: Your growth has stagnated. Seek out challenges that will force you to evolve.
Reward: Skill Evolution Token
Klein read the message twice. His system had never given him a quest before. This was new.
"Push my limits, huh?" Klein muttered. Maybe Boomer was right. Maybe he did need stronger opponents to truly grow.
He closed the interface and lay back down. His decision was made.

The next morning, Klein returned to the Titan's Fist Guild Hall. The same woman from before, Raze, greeted him at the entrance.
"Back already?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.
"I want to talk to Boomer."
Raze smirked. "He's in the training hall. Follow me."
They walked through the corridors again, the sounds of combat growing louder with each step. When they entered the training hall, Klein spotted Boomer immediately. The large man was in the center of the room, wrestling with what looked like a metal construct twice his size.
"Is that a training dummy?" Klein asked.
"Reinforced steel golem," Raze corrected. "Custom-made for System Bearers who need something tougher to fight."
Boomer slammed the golem into the ground with a thunderous crash, then looked up and saw Klein. His face lit up.
"Klein! You're back!" He left the broken golem behind and jogged over, barely winded. "Changed your mind?"
Klein nodded. "I'll join. But on one condition."
Boomer's grin widened. "Name it."
"I want to fight the strongest member of your guild."
The training hall went quiet. Every fighter stopped what they were doing and turned to look at Klein. Raze's expression shifted from casual interest to genuine surprise.
Boomer laughed, loud and hearty. "You want to fight our strongest member? You sure about that?"
"I need to know where I stand," Klein said. "If I'm going to be part of this guild, I need to see what the top looks like."
Boomer's laughter faded, replaced by a serious expression. He glanced at Raze, who shrugged.
"Your funeral," Raze said.
Boomer turned back to Klein. "Alright. But I'll warn you now...our strongest member isn't me. She's on a whole different level."
"She?" Klein asked.
"Yep." Boomer gestured toward the far end of the hall. "She's in the back room, meditating. Give me a minute to get her."
Boomer walked off, leaving Klein standing in the center of the hall. The other guild members whispered among themselves, their eyes fixed on him. Klein ignored them, focusing on calming his nerves.
Minutes passed, and then the door at the far end opened. A woman stepped out, and Klein's breath caught.
She was tall, with long silver hair tied back in a ponytail. Her eyes were sharp and calculating, the color of molten gold. She wore simple black combat gear, and her presence alone filled the room with pressure.
Klein's Archfiend Insight flared to life, analyzing her. The information flooded his mind:
Name: Seris Vale
System: Void Empress System
System Level: 13
System Grade: S
Klein's eyes widened. Level 13. Two levels above him. And her system grade matched his own.
Seris walked toward him, her movements graceful and deliberate. She stopped a few feet away, studying him with those golden eyes.
"You're Klein S'roar," she said, her voice calm and composed. "The one who defeated Vax and Boomer."
"That's me."
"And you want to fight me?"
Klein nodded. "I do."
Seris tilted her head slightly, a faint smile touching her lips. "Interesting. Most people avoid fighting me. You're either brave or foolish."
"Maybe both," Klein admitted.
Seris's smile widened. "I like you already." She took a step back, her aura beginning to flare. The air around her shimmered, distorting like heat waves. "Let's see if you can survive."
Klein felt the weight of her power pressing down on him. His Archfiend scales began to appear instinctively, his body preparing for battle.
Boomer's voice boomed from the sidelines. "No killing! And try not to destroy the entire hall!"
Seris didn't respond. She just stared at Klein, waiting for him to make the first move.
Klein took a deep breath, then activated his wings. They erupted from his back, golden and black, casting shadows across the room. His claws extended, glowing with energy.
"Let's go," Klein said.
Seris vanished.
Klein barely had time to react before she reappeared behind him, her fist aimed at his spine. He twisted, blocking with his wing, but the impact sent him sliding across the floor.
"Fast," Klein muttered, regaining his balance.
Seris stood where she'd attacked, her expression unchanged. "You're quick. Good."
Klein didn't wait. He launched himself forward, claws slashing through the air. Seris dodged each strike effortlessly, her movements fluid and precise. She countered with a palm strike to his chest, and Klein felt the force ripple through his scales.
He stumbled back, surprised. "She broke through my defenses?"
Seris didn't give him time to think. She pressed the attack, her strikes coming faster and harder. Klein blocked and dodged as best he could, but every hit that landed felt like a hammer blow.
"You rely too much on your scales," Seris said, her voice calm even in the midst of battle. "They won't save you against someone who knows how to bypass them."
Klein gritted his teeth. She was right. He'd been depending on his Archfiend body to tank damage, but Seris was exploiting the gaps in his defense.
"Then I'll just have to hit harder," Klein said, activating Storm's Breath.
Golden and black flames erupted from his mouth, filling the room with searing heat. Seris raised her hand, and a void opened in front of her, swallowing the flames whole.
Klein's eyes widened. "She can do that?"
"Void Empress System," Seris said, her smile returning. "I control the space around me. Your attacks won't reach me unless I allow it."
Klein realized he was in trouble. This wasn't going to be easy.
