CHAPTER 15: VOID EMPRESS

Klein circled Seris carefully, his mind racing. Every attack he'd tried so far had either been dodged or absorbed. She wasn't just strong...she was on a completely different level. "You're thinking too much," Seris said, her golden eyes tracking his every movement. "In a real fight, hesitation gets you killed." She moved again, faster than before. Klein barely raised his arms in time to block her kick, but the force sent him crashing into the wall. The stone cracked behind him, debris raining down. "Damn it," Klein muttered, pushing himself out of the crater. His scales had absorbed most of the impact, but he still felt it. Seris wasn't holding back. The guild members watching from the sidelines murmured among themselves. Klein could hear snippets of their conversations. "He's getting destroyed..." "Seris is way too strong for him." "Think he'll last five minutes?" Klein clenched his fists. He'd come here to prove himself, not to be humiliated. He needed to change his approach. "Dragonic Insight," Klein whispered, activating his skill. His vision sharpened, and he began to see the subtle movements in Seris's stance. The way she shifted her weight, the direction of her gaze, the slight tensing of her muscles before each attack. Seris charged again, but this time Klein was ready. He sidestepped her punch and countered with a claw strike aimed at her ribs. His attack connected, and for a moment, Klein felt a surge of triumph. Then Seris smiled. "Better," she said. Klein's eyes widened as he realized his claws hadn't pierced her skin. She'd hardened her body somehow, turning it as tough as steel. "Void Armor," Seris explained, tapping her side where Klein had struck. "One of my passive abilities. You'll need more than that to hurt me." Klein jumped back, reassessing. She had defensive abilities too. This was getting complicated. "You're analyzing me," Seris observed, walking toward him slowly. "That's good. But analysis won't help if you can't execute." She vanished again, appearing above him this time. Klein looked up just as her heel descended toward his head. He rolled to the side, her kick smashing into the floor and creating another crater. Klein didn't waste the opening. He activated Archfiend Talon, his claws glowing brighter as he poured more mana into them. He slashed upward, aiming for Seris's leg while she was still recovering from her attack. His claws connected, and this time, he felt resistance. Seris grunted, leaping back and landing several feet away. A thin line of blood appeared on her leg. The hall went silent. "First blood," Boomer's voice boomed from the sidelines. "Klein actually landed a hit!" Seris looked down at her leg, then back at Klein. Her smile widened. "Now we're talking." Klein felt a chill run down his spine. He'd just made her excited, and that wasn't good. Seris's aura exploded outward, the pressure in the room doubling instantly. Several of the weaker guild members dropped to their knees, unable to withstand it. Klein gritted his teeth, his own aura flaring to resist. "Let me show you what a Level 13 System Bearer can really do," Seris said. She raised her hand, and the space around Klein began to distort. He felt pressure crushing him from all sides, like invisible walls closing in. His scales groaned under the strain. "Void Compression," Seris announced. "I can manipulate the space around my target, crushing them without even touching them." Klein struggled to move, but the pressure was too much. His wings wouldn't spread, his claws wouldn't extend. He was trapped. "Give up?" Seris asked. Klein's vision started to blur. He could feel his ribs creaking, his breath coming in short gasps. But giving up wasn't an option. "Storm..." Klein whispered, thinking back to the Divine Archfiend who'd given him this power. Storm had survived for eons, faced countless enemies, and never backed down. Klein couldn't dishonor that legacy by quitting now. He focused on the energy inside him, the chaos attribute that came with the Divine Archfiend System. Storm had called it the power to break rules, to defy limits. If Seris was using space against him, then he needed to break that space. "Chaos Burst!" Klein roared. His aura exploded outward, wild and uncontrolled. The void compression shattered like glass, and Klein dropped to one knee, gasping for air. His entire body ached, but he was free. Seris's eyes widened slightly. "You broke through my Void Compression? Impressive." Klein stood slowly, his scales glowing brighter than before. The chaos energy swirled around him, black and gold intertwining. He didn't know how he'd done it, but he'd tapped into something new. "I'm not done yet," Klein said. Seris's smile returned. "Good. Neither am I." She launched herself forward, and Klein met her head-on. Their fists collided, sending a shockwave through the hall. The floor beneath them cracked, and the walls trembled. They exchanged blows at blinding speed, each strike powerful enough to level a building. Klein's claws slashed through the air, met by Seris's void-enhanced strikes. The sound of their battle echoed like thunder. Klein activated Storm's Breath again, but this time he controlled it better, focusing the flames into a concentrated beam. Seris raised her hand to absorb it, but Klein had anticipated that. He shifted the angle at the last second, the flames grazing her shoulder instead of hitting her void barrier head-on. Seris hissed, the burn mark visible on her combat gear. "Clever." "I learn fast," Klein replied. Seris laughed, genuine amusement in her voice. "You really do. Alright, let's end this." Her aura surged again, even stronger than before. Klein felt his instincts screaming at him to run, but he held his ground. If he wanted to join this guild, he needed to see this through. "Void Empress: Infinite Prison," Seris declared. The space around Klein twisted violently. Walls of pure darkness formed around him, sealing him in a cube of void energy. He couldn't see outside, couldn't hear anything. It was complete isolation. Klein tried to break through with Chaos Burst again, but the walls held firm. He slammed his fists against them, his claws against them, even tried Storm's Breath, but nothing worked. "This is what true power looks like," Seris's voice echoed from everywhere and nowhere. "The difference between Level 11 and Level 13 isn't just numbers. It's experience, skill, and the mastery of your system." Klein stopped attacking, his breathing heavy. She was right. He'd given it everything he had, and it wasn't enough. The gap between them was real. "Do you understand now?" Seris asked. Klein closed his eyes, then nodded. "Yeah. I understand." The void walls disappeared, and Klein found himself back in the training hall. Seris stood a few feet away, her arms crossed, that same calm expression on her face. "You did well," she said. "Better than most who challenge me. But you still have a long way to go." Klein dropped to one knee, exhausted. His mana was nearly depleted, his body screaming in protest. But despite the defeat, he felt something else...excitement. "Teach me," Klein said, looking up at her. "I want to get stronger. I want to reach your level." Seris studied him for a moment, then extended her hand. "Welcome to Titan's Fist, Klein S'roar." Klein took her hand, and she pulled him to his feet. Boomer's laughter filled the hall. "Now that's what I'm talking about! Welcome to the family, Klein!" The other guild members erupted in cheers, their earlier skepticism replaced with respect. Klein had lost, but he'd proven himself. He'd found his path forward.
