CHAPTER 18: CHAOS UNLEASHED

1448 Words
The moment Klein activated Chaos Disruption, the world seemed to slow down. Energy surged through his body, wild and untamed. His scales glowed with alternating pulses of black and gold, and the air around him crackled with power. The purple beam fired from the Corrupted Elder Dragon's mouth, racing toward his fallen teammates. Klein thrust his hands forward, and a wave of chaotic energy exploded from his palms. The two forces collided mid-air. For a moment, nothing happened. Then reality itself seemed to shudder. The dragon's attack shattered like glass, fragments of purple energy dispersing into the air. Klein's Chaos Disruption didn't stop there...it continued forward, slamming into the dragon's chest and sending the massive creature stumbling backward. Klein dropped to one knee, gasping. The skill had drained nearly half his mana in a single use. "What was that?" Raze asked, pulling herself up with Marcus's help. "No idea," Klein admitted, checking his system interface. CHAOS DISRUPTION (Active, Level: 1) Description: Unleash raw chaotic energy to disrupt and nullify enemy attacks. Can also destabilize magical constructs and barriers. Cost: 500 Mana. Cooldown: 1 hour. "Expensive," Klein muttered, "but worth it." Seris was already back on her feet, her golden eyes analyzing the dragon. "It's wounded but still dangerous. We need to coordinate our attacks better." The Corrupted Elder Dragon shook its head, black blood dripping from the wound Klein had inflicted on its chest. Its eyes burned with rage as it locked onto him. "Great," Klein said. "Now it's mad at me specifically." The dragon lunged, its jaws snapping. Klein launched himself into the air, his wings carrying him just out of reach. The creature's teeth closed on empty air, and it roared in frustration. Finn appeared on its back, his daggers finding gaps between scales. "These things are tough! My blades barely penetrate!" "Aim for the wounds!" Seris called out. She raised both hands, and void energy formed around them. "Void Spear!" Multiple lances of dark energy materialized and shot toward the dragon. They struck the creature's sides, piercing through the corrupted scales. The dragon thrashed, trying to dislodge them, but the void spears remained embedded. Marcus charged forward, his massive shield glowing. "Titan's Rampart!" He slammed the shield into the dragon's leg, and the impact created a shockwave that staggered the beast. Raze switched to explosive arrows, firing them at the dragon's wings. "If we can ground it, we'll have a better chance!" Her arrows detonated against the tattered wings, tearing through the already damaged membrane. The dragon roared and tried to take flight, but its wings couldn't support its weight. It crashed back down, shaking the entire plaza. "Now!" Seris shouted. "Hit it with everything!" Klein didn't hesitate. He activated Storm's Breath again, pouring more mana into it this time. The flames were hotter, brighter, and more concentrated than before. They struck the dragon's face, and this time, the creature recoiled. Finn drove his daggers into the dragon's spine, twisting them. Marcus bashed his shield against its ribs repeatedly, each impact cracking bone. Raze fired arrow after arrow, each one finding its mark. Seris moved with deadly precision, her void energy cutting through the dragon's defenses like a hot knife through butter. She appeared at its throat and drove her hand forward. "Void Pierce!" Her attack punched through the dragon's neck, and black blood erupted from the wound. The creature stumbled, its movements becoming sluggish. Klein saw his chance. He flew higher, channeling all his remaining mana into one final attack. His claws extended to their maximum length, glowing with golden light. "Dragonic Damnation!" Klein roared, diving toward the dragon. He struck the creature's head with the force of a meteor. The impact created a crater, and the dragon's skull cracked under the assault. The beast let out one final, pitiful roar before collapsing. Klein landed beside it, breathing heavily. His mana was nearly depleted, and his body ached from the exertion. The system notification appeared: CORRUPTED ELDER DRAGON DEFEATED Experience Gained: 15,000 Level Up! Level Up! You are now Level 13 Klein's eyes widened. Two levels from a single fight. The dragon had been worth it. His team gathered around him, all of them equally exhausted. "Is it dead?" Finn asked, keeping his distance from the corpse. Seris approached the dragon and placed her hand on its scales. "Yes. It's done." Marcus leaned on his shield, sweat dripping down his face. "That was the toughest fight I've had in years." "No kidding," Raze agreed. She looked at Klein with newfound respect. "That final attack of yours... that was something else." Klein shrugged, trying to downplay it. "Just did what I had to." Seris studied him for a moment, then nodded. "You did well. Better than I expected for your first A-rank gate." Before Klein could respond, the dragon's body began to dissolve. It turned into particles of light that swirled upward, forming a glowing orb. The orb split into five smaller orbs, each one floating toward a team member. Klein caught his, and his system interface activated automatically. LOOT ACQUIRED: CORRUPTED DRAGON SCALE (LEGENDARY) LOOT ACQUIRED: ELDER DRAGON'S HEART FRAGMENT CURRENCY GAINED: 50,000 Credits Klein stared at the notifications. Fifty thousand credits was more money than he'd ever seen in his life. And the items... "Legendary loot," he whispered. "First A-rank gate, first legendary drop," Finn said with a grin. "You've got some serious luck, newbie." The plaza began to shimmer, and a portal appeared...the exit. Other System Bearers from different guilds were emerging from various parts of the twisted city, all making their way toward the portal. "Let's go," Seris said. "We're done here." --- When they stepped back through the gate, the real world felt almost surreal. The purple glow faded behind them, and the normal sky returned. Civilians and news crews had gathered at the barricades, cameras pointed at the returning raiders. "There they are!" someone shouted. "The Titan's Fist team!" Klein tried to avoid the cameras, but it was impossible. Reporters swarmed them, shouting questions. "Klein S'roar! Is it true you defeated the boss single-handedly?" "How does it feel to be Level 13 at such a young age?" "Will you challenge Seris for the top spot in your guild?" Seris pushed through the crowd, her presence alone forcing people to back away. "No interviews. We're tired." Boomer was waiting for them near the guild's transport vehicle, his massive frame impossible to miss. "There's my team!" He grinned widely. "Heard you took down an Elder Dragon. Not bad for a day's work!" "It was corrupted," Seris corrected. "But yes, we handled it." Boomer clapped Klein on the shoulder, nearly knocking him over. "Level 13 now, huh? You're catching up to Seris faster than anyone thought possible!" Klein smiled weakly. "Yeah, but I've still got a long way to go." "That's the spirit!" Boomer laughed. "Come on, let's get you all back to the guild. Drinks are on me!" --- That night, the Titan's Fist Guild Hall was alive with celebration. Members gathered in the main hall, drinking and sharing stories of their own Dungeon Gate experiences. Klein sat at a table with his team, nursing a glass of water while the others drank ale. "You don't drink?" Marcus asked. "Never tried," Klein admitted. "Didn't have the money for it before." Raze poured him a small glass. "Well, you've got money now. Try it." Klein took a sip and immediately regretted it. The ale burned his throat, and he coughed violently. The table erupted in laughter. "Lightweight!" Finn teased. Klein pushed the glass away. "I'll stick with water." Seris watched the exchange with amusement, but her expression grew serious when she leaned closer to Klein. "That skill you used...Chaos Disruption. Where did it come from?" "Emergency unlock," Klein said. "My system gave it to me in the middle of the fight." Seris frowned. "Emergency unlocks are rare. Usually, they only happen when a System Bearer's life is in immediate danger." "It wasn't my life I was worried about," Klein said quietly, glancing at his teammates. Seris's expression softened. "You put yourself at risk to protect us." "Isn't that what a team does?" "Yes," Seris agreed. "But not everyone understands that as quickly as you did." She raised her glass. "You're going to go far, Klein. Just don't let it go to your head." Klein clinked his glass of water against hers. "I won't." As the night wore on, Klein found himself thinking about the fight. He'd reached Level 13, earned legendary loot, and gained valuable experience. But more importantly, he'd proven to himself that he could work as part of a team. He wasn't alone anymore. And that made all the difference.
