He knows.
The thought terrified me, but I tried to keep my face neutral. I didn’t think I succeeded, not when his smile widened. Leaning forward, he placed his elbows on his knees and folded his hands in front of him, as if to create an intimate space between us, there in his large office. “Aine, please,” he said softly. “Don’t insult my intelligence. We both know you aren’t taking them.”
He said the blue pills, though. Did he know about the white ones, too?
Somehow, I didn’t think so. Wiping my hands on my thighs in a vain attempt to keep them from sweating, I sat back against the sofa and sighed. “Are you going to call the Officers?”
“In here?” He chuckled dryly. “Please, this is my sanctuary. The laws of the Colony don’t apply while you’re in this room.”
