After dinner, I was in my bedroom messaging Kyer when my mother came in. I heard the faint beep of her tag before I looked up, and I almost told her she was being tracked in her own home, but the wistful smile on her face stopped me. When I had tried to tell her about the Elder Center, she’d said she didn’t want to know. Will it make me happy? she had asked.
