Astra's POV
Our small cabin shook like crazy as a loud crash echoed through the night. My heart was racing. No, not now, not here. "Elyan!" I spun around to him, my hands shaking as I grabbed his shoulders. He was tiny and trembling, his skin covered in sweat.
I flashed my son a soft smile, trying to calm him down but deep down, I knew this was almost impossible. Six years ago, I had a near death experience but thankfully, the healer saved me just in time, sacrificing her own life for mine and I had used that opportunity to escape to a new pack, which I thought would be safer, but turns out it wasn't.
His eyes, usually warm and brown, had turned a weird golden color, and his pupils were tiny slits. He was breathing hard, and his fingertips were turning into claws. "Momma..." he whispered, his voice sounding weird and not human. The pain in his voice broke my heart.
I'd seen hints of his strength before - times when his blood seemed to surge with superhuman power. Like when he'd glare at grown men and they'd stumble backward, or when he'd crush thick tree branches with his small hands like they were paper. But this was different. This was his first transformation. And I had no place to hide him. Another loud crash happened.
I didn't have time to calm him down or be the mom he needed. His body was changing in ways that scared me. And the worst part? Someone else had heard the noise. I caught their scent before I heard their footsteps.
Wolves. My stomach dropped. I'd spent six years avoiding them, moving from one hidden place to another, making sure no one could track us. But Elyan's power was too strong. He'd been holding it in for too long.
Now it was bursting out, sending a signal into the night, calling every predator to our doorstep. I pulled Elyan into my arms, his small body twisting and shaking violently.
His bones cracked under his skin, his cries tearing into me. "Stay with me, baby," I whispered, pressing my lips to his sweaty forehead.
His little fingers gripped my arm tightly as another scream ripped through him. His power sparked through the air. Then, I heard footsteps - fast, heavy, and getting closer.
Not just one wolf, but a whole pack. I pushed down my fear. I couldn't lose it now. I grabbed the emergency bag from under the bed and stuffed it with whatever I could find - clothes, water, a knife. I slung the bag over my shoulder just as the door burst open.
I had no time to react. A huge figure charged in, his golden eyes fixed on Elyan. It was a predator sizing up its prey. The rival pack had found us. I spun around, shielding Elyan, and grabbed the knife from my bag. I slashed at the intruder, but he barely reacted.
The blade sliced across his arm, but he just kept coming. He was enormous, even bigger than Zerek, with the confident look of an Alpha in his prime. "Omega," he sneered, his voice dripping with cruel amusement. "And an Alpha's illegitimate child. What a prize." I didn't hesitate.
I lunged at him again, but before I could reach him, another wolf slammed into me from the side, crushing me into the wall. My ribs snapped. The impact knocked the wind out of me, but I refused to let go of Elyan.
“Mama!” My little boy yelled out, his tone raw with painful emotions that made my heart ache.
I took a deep breath, pursed my lips and struggled to get up but suddenly, I felt a hand grab my hair very tightly and yanked with a great force backwards.
“Ahhh!!!” I yelled as I hit the other end of the wall really hard, it felt as though the air in my lungs had ceased.
“Tsk…” the Alpha clicked his tone as he crouched down to my sitting height. “Such a waste, I thought it would be thrilling finding you after so many years but turns out it isn't”
I gritted my teeth, anger coursing through my veins as the urge to spit on his face built within me.
“If not for your son's powers, you would have stayed hidden for a little longer but unfortunately, he gave your location away” he sneered, shifting his attention to my Elyan, whose little body still trembled with a great force, my son was still struggling to morph into his wolf form. “Oh and….the pup comes with us” he winked.
As he said those words, I felt a surge of rage within me and unable to control it, a loud, guttural snarl rumbled out of my chest. I felt as though I was controlled by an invisible force when I suddenly stood on my feet, yanking the Alpha with a great force as I tossed him to the wall, his ribs slamming onto a metal at the corner.
The Alpha let out a painful groan, I knew his strength had weakened. Taking the opportunity, I grabbed a knife on the table, charging towards his side with the intention to kill!
“f**k you!!” I cursed, sinking the sharp blade deep into his side, deep enough to kill a werewolf. He tried to attack with his last strength, but unfortunately for him, it was already late.
Just then, a loud shriek erupted, it was coming from my Elyan!
My eyes flew open, my heart thudding Vigorously in my chest as I spun towards him just in time to witness my son's first ever transformation into a massive, midnight-black wolf.
I stared at his form, my eyes wide open. Even the wolves that had come to attack us all froze on their spot. Elyan didn't just transform, he radiated with an intimidating aura, almost Alpha-like.
Elyan was just six, he should not have been this big of a wolf, his aura should not be this commanding but to my surprise, it was.
My Elyan was not just an Alpha's son, he was something even greater and more terrifying than that, a unique breed, but I couldn't understand why.
With a fierce growl, Elyan launched himself at the nearest wolf. The collision sent the man crashing through the wooden table and into the far wall. The other intruders reacted in an instant, transforming, ready to strike. But Elyan was quicker.
He ripped through them with the ferocity of a wild animal, far beyond his six years. Blood splattered everywhere, covering the walls. I should have been terrified. But I wasn't. I felt a surge of pride.
But, my little Elyan’s age still told on him. There were a lot of wolves and we were greatly outnumbered. I had to escape here safely with my child. But how?
“Elyan!” I roared, my voice piercing through the chaos in the room as his ears flickered towards the sound of my voice.
“Run, baby! Run!”
Without wasting any more seconds, I too sprinted towards the door, grabbing a bag which contained emergency supplies just in time before I exited, totally ignoring the splitting pain I felt in my ribs.
I looked back to see my Elyan behind me, with each step he took, I could literally feel the ground beneath us tremble from the impact.
Tonight, we needed to stay safe.
But I knew one thing, our enemies would still trace us down. They never seemed to give up and I had spent six years with my son, running from pack to pack, desperate to keep my little son safe.
***THE SILVERCREST PACK, CHANGE IN LOCATION****
Far away in Silvercrest territory, Zerek woke up with a start. His chest tightened. His wolf let out a raw, desperate howl. The bond... He felt it.
Not just her presence, but something more. Something powerful. Something that belonged to him.
His fists clenched. For the first time in six years, a fierce determination took hold of him. She was alive. And he was going to find her, no matter what it took.
