Chapter 6

1090 Words
It was past three in the afternoon, and she had been trying to call Orville's cellphone for a while now. But his phone just kept ringing, and he didn't answer any of her calls. It wasn't like this before. Previously, he would answer her call with just one ring. His behavior towards her had changed. She tried calling her husband's number again. She was nervous as she held the cellphone to her left ear. If Orville were to answer at that moment, what would she say? She just wanted to know if everything was okay because he hadn't answered her calls earlier. With a sad aura, she put her phone down when Orville's cellphone remained unreachable. She let out a sigh. She decided to go to the company where Orville worked. Her husband had no idea that Prime Probuild, the company he worked for, was owned by her uncle, Miguel Prime. She's Kith's cousin, the CEO of PPB. Kith's father and her mother Dorothy were siblings. Orville didn't know any of this. She thought carefully about what she could do. She was puzzled. But in the end, she stood up and quickly left the house. She would drive her car. She drove her own car swiftly. In less than two minutes, she was in the parking lot of PPB. Earlier, she had called Orville's secretary. His position in PPB was high, and Orville had no idea. She was the one who placed him in his position in the company. Her husband had no idea that she supported him. So, it was wrong of him to call her bad luck. Orville's secretary said he wasn't there. She didn't expect to be scowled at by his secretary. She didn't think much about it because the secretary didn't know her. The nerve, thinking she's some kind of secretary. She was about to leave her car when she saw Orville coming out of the company's exit door. She smiled. But her smile turned bitter when she saw the beautiful woman following her husband. She even clung to her husband's arm, as if she were a woman who needed protection. That jerk, what did the woman think of herself? Who was the beautiful girl escorted by her competent husband? Her eyes narrowed. He's cheating on her. That explains his attitude this morning. That girl was his type. Hot and sexy. But she was hot and sexy too. Where were they going? Various questions swirled in her mind. What explanation could calm her down? She could see the happiness on their faces. What sweet moments they were having, as if they were in a movie. She was fuming. She followed them with her eyes. Orville's car was nearby. So she could clearly see them holding hands. She couldn't believe that the woman would shamelessly hold hands with a married man. But was it the woman's fault if Orville introduced himself as single? If he introduced himself as single. Wasn't that sometimes how some men were? What an itch, Orville. Why didn't Kith inform her about that? Oh, she remembered that Kith was currently not managing PPB; it was Noam, Kith’s brother. Kith had taken a three-month vacation. She wasn't that close to Noam. Her chest tightened. A hot tear rolled down her left cheek. But she calmed down and followed the two. She didn't run so as not to be noticed by them. Perhaps that woman was the reason why Orville always came home late. They ended up at a famous restaurant. They're dating, she thought. She was fuming. She couldn't stop herself and stormed inside. When Orville saw her, his eyes widened. "Goddammit, Orville, who is this woman?" Anger blazed in her eyes. "Yesha, calm down, please." "Calm?" She laughed bitterly. "Are you kidding me? Stay calm, should I stay calm while seeing you two on a date?" "Date?" The woman gasped. "Who is this woman?" The woman asked calmly. "Excuse me? Who am I?" She repeated, pointing at herself. "Tell her, Orville. You damn..." She was about to pull her hair, but Orville stopped her. "Yesha, she's my client." It was like a bucket of cold water was poured over her. She was his client? Why didn't she keep her cool earlier? She felt embarrassed. Orville gave her a sharp look before dragging her out of that restaurant. "Your brain, stupid." He pointed at her. "You're really making a scene, woman." He angrily tapped her head. "You're smart, but you act like you have no brain." "I'm sorry," she stammered. "After you embarrass me in front of my client. Dude, you're stupid." He clenched his fists on his lap. He lightly slapped her cheek before going back inside. She was left dumbfounded. She wanted to go back inside and apologize to the woman. But she couldn't do it. But she still remembered that earlier, the two were holding hands. Is that a client attitude? She was flirting with her husband. And Orville seemed to protect the woman. She had heard a lot of cases where husbands always sided with their mistresses. Was that what happened to her now? She just sighed and walked to where she left her car. The two were happily eating and chatting inside the restaurant, while she was silently crying and in pain inside her car. She felt once again that she didn't belong in this world. To Orville's world. She felt like a stranger. She was a stranger to Orville now. He couldn't even recognize their love. Love? Love, yes, and lie. It was all pretense. But she had no intention of giving up. She wasn't enough to give up. She loved him. And giving up was never an option for her. She could do everything for Orville to love her for real. They still belonged to each other after all. They still loved each other in the name of marriage vows and certificate. That was enough for her. She was fighting, but she felt weak. She started her car's engine after wiping her wet cheeks. She accelerated and left that place. On her way home, only Orville occupied her mind. To have a devilish thought, she wanted to crash her car to disappear. But she calmed down and stopped her car by the side of the road. She cried and sobbed. Her chest tightened. Orville's name escaped her lips as she sobbed. She knew that when Orville came home, he would hurt her because of her humiliation earlier. She prepared herself for what Orville might do to her.
