Yesha woke up early. When she went down to the living room, Orville was still asleep on the couch. She sighed and went straight to the kitchen. She fried an egg for their breakfast.
Her vision was blurry, and she felt like she wanted to go back to sleep because she was still sleepy. It felt like she had just forgotten and fallen asleep a moment ago.
She had been thinking about various things all night. She couldn't fall asleep immediately. That's why her eyes hurt. She wanted a bed and a pillow to sleep.
She accidentally touched the hot frying pan. She screamed suddenly from the pain. The hot pan jolted her out of her sleepy state.
She winced, her palm burned. She quickly left the kitchen and hurried upstairs into their room. She immediately searched for a burn healer. Her palm was red. She was crying in pain; it felt like the pain was searing into her.
The pain still hadn't subsided, and she continued to apply medicine to the blistered, burned part of her palm. It was turning red. A reddish circle.
"Bullshit," she heard Orville shout from the kitchen. She suddenly remembered what she was cooking.
Even though her burned palm hurt, she immediately left the room and ran downstairs. He was standing there in the kitchen.
"What is this? This is s**t," he cursed. She didn't expect him to curse. But she understood. Because what she was cooking was burning. "What are you doing upstairs, leaving what you were cooking?" He asked, irritated.
"I put-"
"f**k!" he cursed again, cutting her off. "You shouldn't leave what you were cooking. It's just an egg, and what made you so stupid frying it?"
He was her husband. He called her stupid. She didn't expect to hear that from her beloved husband.
What was all about his attitude now, he was irritated and angry. He cursed at her for such a small thing. He didn't let her finish explaining why she left what she was cooking.
She wouldn't show him her burned palm. She was deeply hurt. Why did Orville change? Why was he different from the Orville she knew before? She could see the irritation on his face.
"I'm sorry," she apologized to prevent the situation from escalating.
"f**k," his irritation seemed unabated.
She had no choice but to tidy up the blanket he used last night on the sofa. Her eyes widened when she saw a condom. Did it fall into Orville's pocket last night? What was it for? Who would he use it with? She wanted to ask and inquire. But fear and anxiety overwhelmed her. She knew Orville didn't use condoms whenever they were make love.
Her hand trembled as she pocketed it. Tears welled up in her eyes. She wanted to cry. But he was in front of her. She didn't want to show him that she was hurt by her suspicions.
It was true, all her suspicions were true. How could she tell him they weren't? She held the evidence. Orville had indeed changed. When did this happen? She didn't expect that.
"Goddammit," he cursed again.
"Stop cursing, will you?" she said, standing up. She couldn't stop herself from speaking out.
"You're still stupid," he said, walking in front of her, very close to her. He grabbed her shoulder, holding it tightly. "What time should I go to the office, and you're still being stupid?"
"I'm in pain," she complained. His grip on her shoulder hurt.
He pushed her back forcefully, causing her to fall and sit on the floor. She expected each tear to fall one by one. She was in pain, not because of the physical pain he inflicted on her. But because of his attitude that morning. Who poisoned Orville's mind, making her husband act like that?
"This isn't you, Orville," she said.
He let out a deep sigh in response to what she said.
"Why the hell are you doing this? Is someone poisoning your mind?" she asked, tears streaming down her face as she continued to wipe them away.
He bowed his head and gripped her dress. His eyes blazed with anger. Although her eyes were blurred, she still looked into his eyes. He's Orville, her husband. He's a good husband, and she thought about it. One of his hands grasped her chin. Tight, and she looked up.
No, why did he do that to her? Why did he hurt her? What did she do wrong? What problem did she cause him? Why did he have the right to hurt her physically?
"Please, I'm in pain," she pleaded in agony.
"You're a misfortune," he cursed at her face. "Do you know that you're disgusting, unlucky?"
Why? How? When did she become unlucky for her husband? They've been married for five months now. She understood that he was angry, but the reason and root of his anger were very obvious.
"Didn't you chase after me? Even though I didn't want to marry you? Remember that, asshole," he reminded her of those days. Orville agreed to marry her because of money. She paid for his tuition fees. That was the reason why they were now in a marital relationship. She chased after Orville. He was right.
"And do you think of yourself as fresh?
Doesn't that mean Orville doesn't love her? Her chest started to tighten.
"What now, Yesha? Do you know that your Mommy was right when she said that I wasn't the man destined to be yours? She was f*****g right. She has the brain in your family. No wonder," he clenched his teeth.
"I'm in pain," she complained again as he tightened his grip on her chin.
A strong slap from Orville's heavy palm hit her. She fell to the floor from the force of the slap. She lay on the floor, touching her burning cheek.
She looked like a beggar in his eyes. She didn't expect that to happen. She reaped what she sowed by chasing after a man she didn't love.
But that wasn't true. During their past months as a married couple, she felt his love for her. The love of a true spouse. But what the hell is happening right now? Her mind was almost exploding from processing all those thoughts.
Her tears continued to flow. She felt so weak, she had no courage. She touched her head. She felt like the world was spinning around her. Her vision blurred, and her body slowly collapsed to the floor.
