(Caroline's POV)
"What the—" Samuel tries to hold on, but Charlie is thrashing now, completely overwhelmed.
I grab my son, pulling him into my arms. "I've got you, baby. I've got you."
"Stop crying," Samuel hisses at Charlie. "Everyone's watching."
"Because you put him up here!" I'm shouting now, past caring who hears. "I told you he couldn't handle this!"
"Charlie, stop it!" Samuel is still smiling at the cameras, but his voice is sharp with anger. "You're embarrassing me."
"I'm sorry," I say to the crowd. "I need to take him outside."
I turn to leave, but Samuel's hand shoots out, gripping my wrist.
"Not yet." His voice is still smooth, but there's steel underneath. "Just a few more minutes."
"He's having a meltdown—"
"He needs to learn to control himself."
