(Caroline's POV)
The question makes my chest tight. "He's not. Handling it, I mean. He's fighting it because it'll hurt his reputation. But he doesn't actually want us back. He just wants to keep his devoted family man image."
Aunt Jasmine has been busy the last few days because of this.
"He sounds like an asshole."
The blunt assessment surprises a laugh out of me. "Yeah. He is."
"Rose asked me about Charlie yesterday," Jason says. "Wanted to know why he doesn't have a daddy. I didn't know what to tell her."
"What did you say?"
"That every family is different. Some have two parents, some have one, some have grandparents or aunts or uncles raising them. What matters is love, not the number of people." He pauses. "She seemed satisfied with that answer."
