That day, Jeesha did not stop by the building to ensure no one was shadowing her; because she was sure that she was being followed.
Clutching her tote bag to her chest and breathing heavy, she walked fast. Despite her attempts, her body had decided to chose the very day to be rebellious. Her each step felt like a massive stone not ready to part from the earth, making her quiver and stumble every few steps.
Fortunately, the walk from her University till her place was short. Her breath had shortened and eyes almost hazy by the time she reached her neighbourhood. Only when she closed the door behind her did she release her breath, something she hadn't realised she was doing.
"Dear, how were your papers?" Her mother asked as she walked into the living room
"It was good ma," Jeesha said softly, still slightly allarmed and disturbed. She noticed her mother's questionable face but before she could interwine, Jeesha began, "Just feeling sore from all the sitting. A short nap will freshen me up."
"You have had quite a semester considering it was your last. Your efforts will show it's results. So stop worrying about it and just relax now." Her mother smiled. Jeesha was relieved that her mother, though with her wrong interpretation, wasn't pushing her with further questions.
"Now hurry up. Tonight, will be a feast considering your father will be the chef. And his assistant is already at the groceries buying the necessasities."
Jeesha laughed, "You mean Ronav went to the market alone? How did he become that brave?"
"I just thank God, he started growing up. Poor thing was afraid of the dark till he was fifth grade." They both laughed at her comment as Jeesha finally made her way to her room upstairs.
Jeesha's room had nothing much except a bed, a cupboard and a large bookshelf filled with file of books and papers. Her room was as simple as the letter 'I' and decorated with plain white wallpaper.
Jenis, herself, was a very simple girl. She was always very studious. She had a dream to become a doctor and help people like her father. She had a beautiful heart which reciprocated outside.
Jeesha tied her long wavy hair in a bun and pulled out some books from her shelf. She had originally planned to sleep but she also wanted to complete the novel she was reading.
She usually stayed indoors as she was an introvert. But later when she came in contact with her peculiar disease it was even more obvious for her stay inside by all means. She would be found in the class, library, or at home reading books. She was fond of adventure but due to her social phobia, she couldn't do it. But she rather enjoyed the adventurous experiences through the books she read.
Jeesha found a place near her window and began reading. She hadn't even realized when the clouds had darkened and the moon woke up from its slumber.
A sudden call from her mother made her jump from the fictional world.
"15 more minutes, ma!" She cried out loud as she dug the book on her bed and looked out her window.
It was a remarkable place where they stayed. It was more like the countryside with fewer buildings and more bungalows. Her room faced every single beauty in the vicinity—from the farm full of dark green crops with tiny fireflies flying over these crops, to the lake followed by some houses and the wide dark forest of trees. One may be surprised by the variety of fauna and species of animals that can be seen on a random day.
Jeesha took in the fresh air when suddenly her head spinned. Instead of getting hazy, her eyes changed colors. Even her vision went all red. A 3D-like experience was felt by her, but with it came more. She looked into the forest, and her eyes took her deep into the woods, looking at every single creatures that came in her way. She zoomed further, but suddenly she heard a loud cry of a wolf, this time 10 times louder than the normal one. Her hand grabbed her ears from the impact. She closed her eyes tightly when she started feeling uneasy. Without wasting a second, she got out of her bed trying to search for water.
Jeesha proceeded towards the kitchen downstairs. But this time, her leg was faster than an express train. She reached the kitchen in a blink of an eye. She hastily grabbed a glass of water and gulped it in one shot. The loud thud of the glass made her family members scurry towards her with worry.
"Je, you okay?" Her mother asked patting her back as she coughed from the impact of the water entering her wind pipe.
"Ma, stay away. I might hurt you." Jeesha cried, pushing her mother away.
"Baby, don't fear. We are there with you. It's just temporary. You will be fine, Okay?" Her father tried to calm her down, getting hold of his daughter but she jerked away from him.
"How will it be fine, Pa? This started on my 18th birthday, and this is the 4th time this month. And each time it is getting worse. Remember the last time, I almost killed my Ronav? Ma, why is this happening to me?" She asked as she sat down sobbing.
Her powers, or whatever they were, were getting sensitive by the day, hurting her and terrifying her at the same time.
They had gone to the hospital before, but the doctors too were clueless about it. Some doctors even asked her to take up tests to research over the illness. Her dad, himself, was an MBBS, so he knew what they meant. He did not want his daughter to be a puppet for the doctors and their experiments.
So, her family had no other choice but to hide her problem from all. She disliked it, no she hated it. But she had to live like this... until 2 days ago; she hurt her brother. He was surely fine, but that created a greater impact on Jeesha. She, now, did not hate her disease but was terrified of it.
Suddenly her throat died up. But this time she didn't want the water she needed but...Blood! Instantaneously a person, from nowhere, came in front of her. He gave her a small bottle, which contained a blue fluid. Jeesha grabbed the bottle from his hand and gulped it in one shot without any clear awareness of what had happened. As her breath calmed down so did her senses come back to her.
"What was that?" She asked, looking at the clear blue liquid. She was not sure whom she was asking but all her attention was only on the substance that saved her.
"This is Bluron serum. It is vegetarian, made for a temporary cure to us." He said as he helped her to her feet.
Jeesha looked at the guy. He was tall, chubby, and cute with black perfect hair. He looked similar to Jeesha's age. His hair was curly and it came on his face. He looked innocent, but smart at the same time. He always had a cute smile on his face.
"What do you mean by us? Who are you?" She asked curiously and maybe a little scared, for he had appeared from thin air.
"My name is Dusu and I am a vampire." The sentence petrified Jeesha's family as if turning them to statue.
"Don't fear. I won't hurt anyone. I am just like you, Jeesha." He said, the last sentence looking at her.
"Like me? What do you mean?"
"You are a vampire, Jeesha." He said with a careful yet mysterious voice...
