727 Words

Chapter 3 I found some motivation a couple of days later, in the Queen’s Head. I popped in there in the morning, while I was out doing errands. it was too early for a drink, so I had a coffee instead. As I stood by the bench with the sugar and stuff, absently reading the things on the notice board above it, I spotted it. The Running Queens, the pub’s—ahem—imaginatively named running team were starting training for the town’s half-marathon road race that would happen in six months. New members welcome, it said with many exclamation marks and an appeal to the double-entendre lover in all of us. I looked at it for a while, stirring my coffee. A half marathon. Thirteen and a bit miles. How long did it take a person to train for such a race? Did they need to be fit already? Could I enter it?
