Chapter 20 Michele and Angel stopped for a rest at Clara’s house on the way out of town. They agreed some cold lemonade would go down fine. The shade, and what little comfort the old swamp cooler could provide, would be even better. Grim’s bike was gone. Michele pouted. He came home while she was gone and left again. “Probably hanging out with Clay,” Angel said. The thermometer in the shade under the front eaves read ninety-five degrees already. Inside, the door shut behind them, the sweat cooled instantly against her skin. Her T-shirt and shorts stuck to her swimming suit beneath. “Mind if we hang out for a little bit?” Michele asked. “Sure,” Angel said. Michele fetched the lemonade and ice while Angel got glasses. They sipped at the lemonade, enjoying a break from the heat.
