‘The contracted party agrees to fulfill all professional and personal duties as requested by the CEO at his sole discretion, including but not limited to companionship, physical availability and any personal services deemed necessary by the employer, during all hours of residency on the property and at work.’ He was right! It was boldly written on the contract and I had ignored it. Was it because I did not understand at first? Perhaps, I had hurriedly signed the contract without thinking through due to desperation and my need to leave my abusive home. My face paled and I could feel his eyes still glued on me. Heaven knows I couldn't do this. I might just return back home, the same place I had ran from. The thought of going back made my stomach churn in ways I didn't like, there has to be another way. Without looking his way, I hurriedly ran out of his office. I needed fresh air and space to think clearly. His presence was distracting and his eyes on me was worse. I wanted to be alone. I made my way to the rooftop of the building, it was vast, windy and warm from the sun. I liked it here, I stood still as the wind blew about my long brown hair and my thoughts were immediately all over the place, thinking of the next best action to take. I was torn between staying and enduring the consequences of my actions or going back home, that too had its own consequences. I thought getting this job was the best thing that would happen to me. I get to work in a nice office with a rich boss, a nice house and a fat salary. But it wasn't just that. My boss was allowed to do whatever he liked with me and I couldn't say no because I signed that contract, I agreed to it. I swallowed the lump on and throat and blinked repeatedly, fighting back the tears that were threatening to flow out. I brought this upon myself. Why would I allow a cheating piece of s**t to touch me whenever he felt like it or do whatever he wished with me when I could just return back home? I was still deep in my thoughts when my phone rang out, the sudden sharp ringing tone made me gasp with a small jump. I sighed and looked at the screen of my phone and immediately felt goosebumps all over me. My Mother was calling. What could be the issue? My heart beat sped as I thought of a million reasons why she would call. Another problem? More debt? Did Maya fall sick? She wanted more money? I didn't know but neither of these options sounded like something I wanted to deal with right now. I wasn't sure I could handle it financially too because I already gave all I had to my Mother before leaving. I currently have nothing on me, not a cent. I sighed deeply and finally picked the call after bracing myself. “You need to send us some money! The bills are compiling and you should know that. I shouldn't have to call to remind you Lena, these are the things you should know." My Mother's grumpy voice hit my ears and I shivered in horror, she wasn't a pleasant person at all. I hated it. "I gave you all I had the last time, there's no money with me right now…” "And what exactly do you ask I do? You want us to live uncomfortably here with no water and electricity because you can't afford the bills while you frolic around with sugar daddies in the city?” She said. Her last words did something to me, something I couldn't explain and the tears I had been fighting were now flowing down as I tried to suppress the sobs that came out of my mouth. Her last words felt like she knew what was going on with me, except this wasn't a sugar daddy, this was my boss. I couldn't understand why I was suddenly crying. Was it out of guilt? Or shame. Maybe both. I hated that this was what I could come up with after finally leaving home. A corporate s*x worker disguised as a executive personal assistant. I wanted to laugh but was too busy crying my eyes out to do so. “I do not care what happens to you over there but I give you till the end of this month to wire me some money!" BEEP! BEEP! She ended the call after threatening me. “Ms?" I heard someone call me from behind shortly after the call with my Mother that left me feeling terrible. I wiped out my tears, turned and saw it was Adrian's Secretary, the cool lady from before. “Mr Adrian demands for your immediate presence at his office." She said and without waiting to hear my response, she left. Of course, he would ‘demand’ for me, this was what I signed up for. I made sure to wipe my tears clean to make sure he doesn't notice it. I made my way to his spacious office and walked in to find him standing before the panoramic floor-to-ceiling window with his hands tucked into his pockets. I took in a couple of deep breaths and walked to where he stood, I stopped behind him and waited. "Prepare me a cup of coffee,” he ordered without saying anything else or getting into the details of how he wanted his coffee, I was tempted to ask but kept quiet for fear of sounding like I had cried. With my fingers crossed, I moved and got it ready in minutes with the coffee brewing machine. I made sure my footsteps were loud as I walked back to where he stood so he knows I was approaching. I stopped and stood behind him, I should speak, I should say ‘sir your coffee is ready’ but I couldn't bring myself to utter a word because he would know I cried if he heard my voice. So I remained standing, with the mug if hot coffee in my hand. Minutes went by and he finally turned with a frown on his handsome face, I could already see he had questions. Wordlessly, I stretched the coffee towards him while avoiding eye contact. He didn't take it, he walked towards me instead and I was tempted to run out of here, I didn't. Now Adrian was standing really close to me and as I stared back at him, I saw the frown was still there. “Babe!" I gasped and immediately kept a good distance between myself and Adrian when I heard Vivienne’s voice, she flung the door open and stepped into the office without knocking. “I'm so excited Adrian! My father is hosting a dinner get together for us and your parents are attending too. It's been a while we did this, so I went shopping." I could hear the excitement in her voice. Adrian and his parents would attend a dinner get together with Vivienne and her parents, sounded like the rich people activity. I looked up at Adrian, he looked bored and said nothing while he remained where he stood, watching Vivienne excitedly unpack what she bought on the couch beside his working table. “Be prepared, you are coming with me, Lena." Adrian finally spoke and as soon as I heard my name, I felt my soul leave my body. He was inviting me to a dinner get together with his fiance and her family? I understood my job here, but going with them to such a function wasn't right. "What?!” Vivienne's voice reached my ears and I wished I could disappear. "Are you serious, Adrian? This is a family dinner between you and me, your soon-to-be wife, not some office activity where you could tag your corporate slave along!"
