3rd Person's Point Of View
Florida didn't break eye contact with the crown prince, who was now looking at her as if he wanted to devour her. She only held back her smile when she noticed an annoyance flash in his eyes, she also saw his jaw tense.
She smiled sweetly at him, but her smile quickly faded when her gaze shifted to the newcomer, Oliver, the Baron. She knew Oliver because her parents had helped him gain entry to the palace.
Additionally, they had grown up together, as he had lived with them while training to become a full-fledged Baron. Oliver is also one of her trusted friends. Aside from that, he is loyal to her and to their family, especially to her parents.
Oliver didn't say anything and just bowed his head as a sign of respect, causing Florida to secretly roll her eyes.
That did not go unnoticed by Oliver and Grand. Florida offered her hand to Oliver, and he immediately took it to guide her to the seat that had been prepared for her.
Before completely turning away, she glanced back at the prince, who was also looking at her. She smiled at him and winked, which raised Grand's eyebrows.
Venerda, who witnessed that, felt anger; she wanted to rush over in frustration at Florida. But she couldn't do that, as there were many onlookers, and she would also be at a disadvantage, considering that Florida was stronger than her. If she acted on that impulse, she would bring disgrace to their family, especially since everyone from the Lunaris Dominion respected Florida and her parents.
As Florida took a seat right in front, she could clearly see everyone, especially the female candidates for the king's son’s wife selection. Especially Venerda, who was now glaring at her; that kind of look was mixed with a threat, and she even saw the movement of her jaw. But instead of being intimidated, she just rolled her eyes at Venerda, as if she were not afraid of her sharp gaze.
Grand also noticed Florida's eye roll toward Venerda. He couldn't take his eyes off Florida. The woman was in profile, so he could see her high nose. And even though it was a side profile, he couldn't deny to himself that Florida was indeed beautiful.
She was probably the most beautiful of all the women he had seen.
But he still managed to keep his cold, emotionless face, despite being mesmerized by her beauty.
“She's beautiful, isn't she?” The King asked his son,he must have noticed his son's gaze on the daughter of the High Luminaries or known as the Head Council.
At first, the king thought he wouldn't respond. He expected that he wouldn't care because even with his gaze fixed on the girl, there was no trace of any emotion. He had never commented on any woman either.
Aside from being cold and feeling no emotions, he has no regard for anyone. Especially towards women, he knows his son, and even Venerda, who is known as a girl that men always chase after, he ignores completely.
He glanced at Venerda, but his son Grand couldn't even manage to do that; even if Venerda almost threw herself at his son, he wouldn’t even acknowledge her.
So when he spoke, it took him by surprise.
“Yes, she is. Too beautiful that you might mistake her for a goddess.”
He immediately turned to his son, who was thoroughly surprised because, for the first time, he heard him comment on a woman. Especially since he used the word “goddess” to describe the girl named Florida, how beautiful she was.
He couldn't react immediately to his son's statement due to shock. He didn't expect it; he didn’t know whether to be pleased or not. He cleared his throat to regain his composure.
The selection was still not over because this was only the first day of the competition. But the King didn’t let it finish and immediately raised his hand to stop his butler, Harvey, who was currently giving instructions to the female candidates. Upon seeing this, the Butler promptly stopped once he understood what the King wanted to convey. He stood straight and then bowed in respect to the King.
“Let's cancel today's selection,” said the King with a voice full of authority. Everyone turned to him upon hearing this, especially the female candidates. Even his son Grand, with a furrowed brow filled with confusion, looked at what his father said. Meanwhile, Florida listened quietly to the King’s words.
Venerda's father stood up at the King's statement. “Your Majesty, pardon me. But I ask, why are you going to cancel the selection?” At his question, everyone looked at him, including the King and the Prince.
Vernardo also suppressed his irritation in his voice. The King did not answer immediately, so Grand answered his question instead, which caused everyone, including Vernardo, to gasp.
“Don't you know that it's rude to question His Majesty's decision? It's quite arrogant! How bold of you!” His voice was cold as he said those words. Vernardo fell silent; he suddenly felt small due to Grand's words. He clenched his fist and seethed with anger.
He never liked the King's son; he really disliked Grand ever since he became the crown prince. So even though he wanted to punch him in anger, he couldn't because of all the people around, and besides, he was sure that by the time he would do that, he might already be dead. And his daughter does like him too, so he couldn't bring himself to hurt him. Venerda is his favorite daughter, among all of his five children, Venerda is his first child and his favorite. She is his most beloved child, so he supports all her desires. So even though he dislikes the young man for his daughter, he is powerless because his favorite child is crazy about him.
Thus, he calmed himself, he even saw his daughter Venerda glance at him. The look she gave him had meaning, as if she was pleading with him. So all he could do was sit back down and remain silent.
Florida, who was just watching and listening, couldn't help but raise an eyebrow and hide the smile that wanted to break free from her lips.
The king noticed the tension between the two of them, so he immediately spoke and turned his gaze to Florida.
“I'd like to invite you, young lady, for dinner to discuss something.” Upon hearing this from the King, Florida secretly grinned. She already expected it to happen.
Because she had anticipated it before she barged into the hall, she already knew it. She saw it. Because she can see the future. She can predict what would happen next or even the words you would say, because it was one of her abilities.
She looked at the king, with a smile on her face showing her dimples. With that look, she appeared innocent, even though she knew the king would invite her.
He looked at the King as if surprised by what he said, as though she had no idea why the King wanted to invite her. The King didn’t speak and just stood up, he motioned for her to follow, so Oliver assisted her. Oliver reached out to her hand to him, which he immediately took.
Grand glanced over there, he didn't know why. But he felt a surge of irritation at that sight, his gaze was sharp on their two hands. Especially when he saw the girl smile at the young man. Suddenly, he wanted to knock out Oliver's teeth for smiling at the girl, he also wanted to cut off his hand for holding hers.
Anger, jealousy, and envy washed over him suddenly, feelings he didn't know where they came from.
He froze for a moment.
“Damn! Why am I feeling this way?” he asked himself. He suddenly became possessive and territorial; that was new to him.
He couldn't help but ask himself why he was feeling this way, especially since he had only met the lady today.
But it felt like he had known her for a long time. Is it even possible for him to feel these strange feelings that are new to him? And he somehow finds it weird why he is acting strangely.
