"It's been 400 years, Your Majesty, but the prince still hasn't found his mate,” one of the members of the Council said.
Ashton Grand glanced at the Council member who spoke, and he saw how the old man gulped, feeling his cold and emotionless stare.
He knew what the old man was trying to say. He had been expecting this, but he was still surprised to hear it so soon.
He remained calm, assessing himself. He didn't feel anything after what had happened years ago. After that girl died, he felt as if half of his being had died with her, as if his humanity had perished along with her.
He didn't have a heartbeat; every vampire does not. But he was different, because unlike normal vampires, they could still feel pain, but he couldn't.
And that made everyone think he was cursed. Among all vampires, he was the only one who hadn't found his mate.
King Arthur looked at his son, who now had no emotional trace on his face, as if he didn't care at all.
He let out a heavy sigh and looked at the council. “I know what you were trying to say, Alfonso.”
Alfonso fell silent, his eyes widening at the king's words. He couldn't speak immediately.
“Gather all the noblewomen for the selection of the crown king's wife. All nobles or anyone you think is capable of being my son's wife.”
Upon hearing what the king had said, the other council members couldn't hide the happiness on their faces. This was what they had been waiting for. It was especially favorable for the council members and noble families with daughters.
Everyone quickly sprang into action, preparing what was necessary for the selection of the future king's wife, and the news spread rapidly throughout the kingdom.
They talked about having a competition, and it wouldn't be easy for the participants to pass as the future king's wife.
Meanwhile, Venerda couldn't hide her smile. She smiled widely and applied red lipstick, looking at her reflection in the mirror.
Venerda was also one of the competitors, and she was confident in herself that she would be chosen, as she had known Ashton, and everyone assumed she would join.
She had been waiting for this opportunity for a long time, and now that it was here, there was no way she could back out. She had to do everything to win and become the next ruler's wife, even if it meant getting her hands dirty.
She believed that no one was more deserving of being his wife than her.
She walked into the hall where the selection would take place, smiling. She was wearing a black dress with a V-line that revealed her cleavage.
“I heard that Venerda will be joining the selection?” She stopped walking upon hearing that conversation, especially when she heard her name.
“Yeah, I heard that too.”
“You know that girl, HAHAHA, she is obsessed with the crown prince.”
“And everyone is expecting her to join the selection.”
“You think we will win against her?”
“Who knows?”
She raised an eyebrow at the conversation she overheard. Her blood boiled; she didn’t want to be the topic of gossip.
"What if I killed them?" she asked herself, her claws and fangs sharpening as she was about to attack, but she stopped at the next words spoken by one of them.
“And I heard that the Head Council’s Daughter will be there too.”
Her brow furrowed at the woman's statement. The Head Council's Daughter? She was quite famous, so much so that even if no one had seen her, she was still talked about throughout the kingdom.
How could she not be? She was the only living being who could communicate and talk to the goddess of the moon.
Is she joining the selection too? She clenched her fist. If that were to happen, there was a big possibility that she wouldn't win the selection, as everyone would surely favor and choose her.
