I stood frozen on the sidewalk, watching the Harvester clutch the stolen fragment in its hand. The girl stumbled forward, unaware, while the entity prepared to drag her consciousness to the Echoing Wastes. Not this time. I didn't have seconds to spare. Couldn't run the remaining fifteen feet. My physical body would never close the distance before the Harvester completed the transfer. But my consciousness could. I closed my eyes and reached for my power, forcing a transition I'd never attempted while awake. Pulling my consciousness out of my physical body and projecting it directly into the in-between space.
