The call came in at 2:47 AM. I woke up to my phone buzzing nonstop on the nightstand. Reached for it half asleep and saw Marcus's name flashing across the screen. "What?" My voice came out rough. "Turn on the news. Right now." He sounded breathless, panicked. "Any channel. Just turn it on." I stumbled out of bed and walked to the living room. Grabbed the remote and hit power. The TV came to life showing a female news anchor with this horrible expression on her face. Behind her shoulder was a graphic that read "BREAKING NEWS: MASS CASUALTIES ACROSS NEW EDEN."
