Episode 5

Tatum

I’m out with the girls trying to get my head round what the hell happened to me today. First Jenson and then the proposal from Ford and his friends.

“Hey girl, you’re not drinking,” my bestie Magnolia says. I call her Maggie for short it drives her insane since she loves her name so much. Her black hair is all in tight braids. Her dark skin glows like she has some kind of serum on it but she hasn’t.

“We’re not even supposed to be drinking, Maggie.”

We’re on the beach; it’s six in the evening and the sun will be starting to go down soon casting the richness of blues and violets as it does. Maggie and I often come here after college when she’s not on shift in the bakery. We sneak out a bottle of wine and sit on the soft, warm sand and enjoy a couple of drinks together.

Our other two close friends, Rowena and Megan can’t join us tonight as they work in the college campus library on Friday nights.

“And where is Shannon?” she asks taking a sip of the rose from the plastic cup.

“We are not talking; in fact, she was caught by me this morning with Jenson’s hand on her tit and his tongue down her throat.”

Magnolia’s eyes bug out of her head and she manages to spit wine out on her thighs which are encased in short, denim cut-offs. “Are you f*****g with me? Jenson and Shannon. She’s your bestie and he’s your boyfriend. Tell me you’re kidding please.”

I shake my head violently. “Nope, not kidding. I’ve had a totally s**t bummer of a day and I just want it to be over.” Should I tell her about Ford and the boys. Do I trust her not to tell anyone else.

“On top of that he is blackmailing me to go back with him.” Her dark, perfect eyebrows raise to her head.

“How is he blackmailing you? With what? He’s such a loser, right?”

I lean back on the sand and place an arm over my eyes to shield the last of the evening sun out. “With our s*x videos,” I say flatly.

“Holy f**k, Tatum. He is a snake. Can’t you get his phone and destroy it.”

“Maybe, I’d have to pretend to go back to him then and what if he has shared them already with Shannon?”

“Huh? Why would he do that if he is trying to go with her?”

“Who knows what sick f**k he is, Maggie.” She finishes her cup of wine and pours herself some more.

“You know what you need to do don’t you?”

“Tell me,” I say sitting up so I can take in some wine. Maybe it’ll chill me out a bit.

“Have you got anything on him you can put on social media. It would kill his popularity and hit hard on the hockey team. I bet Ford would spew if one of his players had s**t going on that was bad press for the team.”

“I don’t know of anything, he’s the one with all the videos and let’s face it. Him on a s*x vid would be cheered about unlike it being a girl. Come on, Maggie you know how it works.”

“Oh, hey ladies, thought I might find you both here,” Shannon says brazen as if she owns the whole damn beach. She looks striking in her red bathing suit cut up high on her thighs practically to her navel with her hair hanging down around her shoulders and her Barbie figure.

“What do you want bestzilla? You’re a b***h, you know that don’t you?” Magnolia says being ever the faithful friend. “Why don’t you go take your loss p***y flaps and go f**k another hockey player. Your hole must be so big it’s shocking.”

Shannon looks shocked and flicks her hair over her shoulders. “You should watch your mouth, Magnolia. I suppose you’re Tatum’s bestie now.”

“Too right she is, you’re such a b***h, Shannon, I hate you!” I yell at her causing people to look over at us.

“Don’t be so high and mighty, Tatum. I know exactly what Jenson has on his mobile, all those videos of you two together.”

“And so, what. You’re nothing but a boyfriend snatcher. How do you think that’s going to look when we spread the word?” Magnolia chimes in. I love that she has my back right now. No way am I telling anyone about being Ford’s fake girlfriend or that his friends are part of the package deal.

“Listen you daughter of a slut, if you mention anything about Jenson and I, I’ll share your photos and videos with the world!”
