A Miraculous Baby (Part Two)

"Hey, am I dreaming or drunk?"

"I am not sure about you. But I think I am dead too with the baby. Could it be that I have come to heaven with the baby?"

"I think I have come to heaven too. But snotty, how come even scum like you is here? Have gods lost their minds?"

"What is the problem if I have come to heaven too? I don't even know how I died. I only remember that I was standing beside you. Don't tell me that you kill me."

The ordinary men got engaged in their idiotic conversation again. Rufus would have scolded them if the situation was ordinary. But now the angel-like baby had come back to life. He could not care about anything else.

Rufus said joyfully, "Mrs. Star, I underestimated you. You are the goddess of children. How did you cure it?"

Tasha lowered her head and let the baby touch her face. At the touch of Tasha's face, the baby stared directly at the sky and smiled while making a cute sound with its dozen of teeth.

Tasha smiled back at the baby and answered Rufus, "I don't know either. I don't know how I cure him. I just give him a goodbye kiss. But it looks like it doesn't want to leave. Aww! so you are a boy. I finally noticed that."

She finally noticed the small tiny body part which made it clear that it was a boy.

"Rufus, don't you think there is something wrong with it?" William said, who was the best friend of Rufus and comrade.

Rufus asked, "What do you mean?"

William gulped down and stepped forward. He waved his hand in front of the baby and confirmed his doubt.

William said, "He is blind."

"What?" everyone exclaimed with surprise. From the moment the baby appeared, they had got surprises only.

William said in a doubtful tone, "His eyes look clear and beautiful, but he is staring at the sun without any problem. I am sure that he is blind. Maybe its parents threw him in the river because of it."

Tasha got a bit angry, she said, "How can that be? If he is blind then how could he guess where is my face or your hand?"

William murmured, "My hand—"

William stopped talking when he noticed that his hand was caught by the baby. William pulled back his hand instantly. He could not believe in his eyes what happened just now.

Rufus said, "William, you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. Don't ruin this joyous moment."

William lowered his head as he felt guilty for the baby.

Rufus clapped two times, then he announced, "Okay. Now everyone, clear the path. The show has stopped. Mrs. Star, can you come with me for a moment? I want it to be checked by a doctor. But I think I will need your assistance."

Before Tasha could say anything, John said, "Tasha, you go with them. I will come after filling the pots."

Tasha nodded her head and followed the guards. The children who saw the leaf first also followed them.

At a small hospital--

A crowd had gathered because of the baby boy who had caught the attention of hundreds of people. Many people were waiting outside to see the baby boy.

"Is it true?"

"Of course. He looks ordinary but if you stare at him for a long time, you will find that he is quite mesmerizing."

"I heard that he came back from death. I can't believe that a baby slapped on the face of Hades."

It was really hilarious that people had started making stories about the baby boy already like he was a prince.

In the room of the doctor, Tasha was breastfeeding the baby behind a curtain. Rufus, William, and the doctor were talking some distance away from her.

The doctor said, "I don't think it stopped breathing because of drowning. I didn't find any clue. However, it might be a different case if some water got into his respiratory system and blocked his breathing for a while.

But that sounds impossible too. The flow of the river isn't much and you people find it on a leaf. I think, there might be another reason why he was not breathing before."

Rufus said, "So it is a miracle."

The doctor said, "You can say it. I have checked his eyes too. It doesn't look like he is blind. But surprisingly, he is not afraid of bright light which is confusing.

"I have to say if you want to check its eyes properly, then you should go to meet doctor Marsh. He would be interested in this case and treat this baby without any charge."

William said while narrowing his eyes, "This baby is unique. He has attracted so many people already. His story to come back from death will be a discussion topic for months."

"That's not good," Tasha said, from the other side of the curtain. The men looked at the curtain with confused faces.

Tasha apologized, "I am sorry gentlemen, for the interruption. But please make stories about this boy false."

Rufus asked, "Why? If the district lord heard about it, he might even bless this child with money."

Tasha, "Sir, you may not see it as a problem. But it is a big problem for people like us. This baby doesn't have any background. No one knows who his parents are. On top of that, he created miracles one after one. He survived the river and death.

"Some people will think that he is blessed or lucky. But some people will think that he is strange or... demon."

William yelled at her, "Shut up! Do you know what you are talking about?"

Rufus raised his hand and said to his friend, "Don't stop her. I want to hear her completely first."

Tasha continued at Rufus' order, "We all know those demons from mountains. They could not be killed easily too. If the rumors about this baby spread even more, then it will become the victim of people's rage."

The men looked at each other with serious faces. Tasha made a good point. They had to consider everything before taking any action.

The doctor suggested suddenly, "How about we tell them that the baby died because you people didn't bring it on time? Then we can raise it in a remote place for some years. When he will grow up, he will be like other children. No one would doubt on him that he defeated death in his childhood."

Rufus nodded his head, "That's a good plan. No one will suspect us. William, can you arrange a fake funeral for this baby?"

William hesitated, "It will be hard. So many people are waiting outside. Do you think they will believe in us?"

Rufus said confidently, "Leave the people to me. You take care of the funeral. We will do it after some hours. If someone asks, we will say that we have to do it immediately to prevent plague."

William nodded his head when Rufus explained the plan even more. But he still had a doubt, "But who will take care of the baby?"

Tasha said immediately, "Me. I mean, I live with my husband in the south-west part of the district. There are very few people in our village. Nobody will suspect us."

Rufus shook his head, "That won't work. Words spread faster than fire. His identity will be revealed soon if someone notices."

Tasha gritted her teeth, "Then I will hide him from the whole world. There is a forest near to our village. I will hide him there until he grows up into a teenager."

The men gasped at her words. The doctor said with a worried look, "Then he would have to spend his whole childhood without any childhood things. You can't give him your family name too. You will only ruin his childhood like this."

Rufus said, "Right. I will send him to an orphanage in another district. This way he will be able to enjoy his childhood and get a surname."

"No. He can not go anywhere until he grows up. I can feel that he is very unique. People will misunderstand his uniqueness and harm him. Even if he has to spend his childhood alone, so be it. Is his life more important than childhood happiness? If he wants to live, he has to sacrifice something. Please, think about it carefully." Tasha said, almost crying because she got emotional.

The men fell into a deep silence again. They had to admit that hiding a baby with an unknown identity wasn't easy. Tasha's plan might be cruel and waste the most precious years of a child, but it would save a lot of trouble.

However, they didn't know that Tasha said those things because she saw something terrifying in the eyes of the baby. The eyes of the baby were changing their colors, according to its emotion. It was black before, but when the baby was drinking milk, its eyes turned sky because of extreme joy. Tasha was worried if people found out about it, then they surely wouldn't spare the baby.

Just where did that miraculous baby come from?
