Chapter 2: A Heavenly Gift
Lia Shimmer could swear she didn’t know this little kid.
Her room had always been filled only with her own things—there were no children’s items, let alone any that she had thrown away.
Yet the little boy turned around and complained to the man outside the door, “Daddy, this is the place where Mommy and I have always lived. Back then, Mommy thought you didn’t like her anymore and left with me. But a few days ago, Mommy slipped in the shower and hit her head. The doctor said she lost her memory and didn’t even remember me. That’s why I had to find you. I didn’t mean to ruin your wedding. You’re not mad at me, are you?”
Lia had thought the man looked familiar but couldn’t place where she had seen him before. The mention of a wedding jogged her memory.
This man was none other than Holt Deep, the CEO of the Deep Group!
The Deep Group was a business empire that dominated not only S City but the entire country. Their company was involved in a wide range of businesses, mainly real estate and high-end home products, and was the economic pillar of S City.
Since Lia herself had studied fashion design, she was very familiar with this industry leader. She had even considered applying for a job at the Deep Group but had given up on the written test for fear they would look down on her past.
However, that wasn’t the main point. The main point was that Holt Deep had a child, and this child was calling her “Mommy”?
Lia felt like the heavens must have played a huge joke on her, or else she was dreaming—
Holt Deep, the head of the Deep Group, was engaged to Zhang Yali, the heiress of the Zhang Group. The two were a perfect match, and not long ago, Zhang Yali had saved Holt’s life in a plane accident. They had planned to get married today, and the media had been flooded with reports of their wedding. But no one could have imagined that this century wedding would be completely ruined by the appearance of a child.
It was said that this child was Holt Deep’s illegitimate son, holding a DNA test result and demanding that Holt take responsibility for him and his mother.
When Lia saw the news this morning, she had inwardly complained about the drama in the rich and famous circles. She never expected that in just a few hours, the trouble would find its way to her.
“Mr. Holt, I’m not this child’s mother. You must have the wrong person.”
Lia calmed down and patiently explained, “The houses in this community all look alike. It’s possible for the young master to get the wrong door.”
Holt raised his attractive eyebrows and countered, “Even one’s own mother can be forgotten?”
Lia was speechless. After all, judging by the look of the little boy, he was smart and lively, not at all like someone who wouldn’t remember his own mother.
The child insisted that she was his mother with Holt, and his expression was very confident. He didn’t show any shyness towards her, just like a real mother and son.
If Lia hadn’t been clear-headed and known for sure that she had never had a son and hadn’t lost her memory, she might have been convinced that she was his mother.
Where on earth had things gone wrong? Had she offended this little boy before, and he was playing a prank on her? Or had she done something good that made the little boy grateful, dragging his billionaire father to offer himself in return?
As far as Lia knew herself, if nothing else, she had always been good at respecting the elderly and loving the young. It shouldn’t be the former.
As for the latter, she had never met this little boy. What could she have done to make him sacrifice so much, even selling his own father?
Lia was puzzled, and Holt was clearly in the dark as well. They exchanged glances and then shifted their attention back to the little boy standing not far away.
The little boy, small in stature but unyielding, spoke in a childish voice with an undeniable air of authority: “Mommy, I won’t get the wrong person! You are the eldest miss of the Li family, with the surname Li and the given name Lia Shimmer. You are 25 years old this year and a fashion designer who graduated from S University. Two years ago, you were framed for plagiarism and driven out of the house by that bad auntie. You’ve suffered a lot of grievance, but from now on, Daddy and I will protect you and won’t let anyone bully you anymore…”
Could it be? Was he really her child?
After the little boy revealed her detailed information, Lia was first shocked, but then quickly denied it.
Although she was a bit absent-minded at times, she wasn’t so forgetful that she wouldn’t know whether she had given birth to a child, right?
But she couldn’t explain why the child knew about her and insisted on claiming her as his mother.
Seeing that she still refused to acknowledge her relationship with Holt, the little boy pouted, looking very wronged: “Mommy, did you forget us because Daddy forgot about you and didn’t come to find you for many years, which made you so sad that you forgot us all?”
It had to be said that the little boy was quite dramatic. If he were on a movie set, he would be praised by the director.
Lia almost felt moved by him but quickly came to her senses: “No, I didn’t.”
“I know now! Mommy must be holding a grudge against Daddy for not wanting you and marrying another woman, so you don’t want me either!”
The little boy’s tears flowed like a waterfall, crying with a sorrowful expression: “Daddy wants to marry a stepmother, and Mommy wants to marry a stepfather. Since neither of you wants me, I’ll just leave! I’ll go beg on the street and sleep under a bridge. I won’t bother you guys anymore…”
Saying this, he really started to stomp his little legs and head for the door. Seeing this, Lia quickly stopped him: “That’s not what I meant…”
Seeing him stubbornly standing his ground, Lia was afraid he would really go out to beg and sleep on the street, so she had to gently comfort him: “If I really am your mom, then you are my little treasure. How could a mom not want her child?”
“What about Daddy?”
The tears on the little boy’s face were still wet, hanging on his face like dewdrops on a lotus leaf after the rain.
He pouted, blinked his watery eyes, and asked with an innocent expression: “Will Mommy not want Daddy?”
Lia subconsciously looked at the man standing not far away. His handsome figure exuded an intangible pressure that slowly enveloped her heart.
As she hesitated, the little boy took a step back and pouted: “I know now. Mommy doesn’t want Daddy. After Mommy doesn’t want Daddy, she will find a new one and won’t want me either!”
Pushing Lia aside, he continued his despondent and wronged complaint: “I’ll go beg for food then. I’ll sleep under a bridge from now on and won’t bother you guys anymore…”
Seeing the little boy about to leave again, Lia quickly said: “No, no, you are Mommy’s little treasure, and Daddy is Mommy’s big treasure. Of course, Mommy wants him too!”
The sound of leather shoes hitting the ground came from behind. Holt Deep walked closer and closer. Lia felt as if a huge iceberg was moving towards her. She turned around and saw Holt looking down at her and the little boy from above.
His cool and deep eyes reflected the shadows of her and the little boy. His handsome face was flawless from any angle. Lia felt that if she looked at him any longer, she wouldn’t be able to hold on.
Before he could speak, she quickly added: “But! Didn’t you say Mommy hit her head in the shower and doesn’t remember you and Daddy? You have to give Mommy some time to remember you guys, right?”
The little boy, still looking wronged, looked at Lia with eyes that seemed to see through her as a heartless and ungrateful woman. After a moment, he hesitantly asked: “...How long is some time?”
This question left Lia speechless.
She had only intended to keep the little boy from running around for the time being. She hadn’t actually admitted that she was his mother!
She looked at Holt Deep helplessly, hoping he could come up with a solution. Holt remained silent for a moment and then said, “Two days.”
Hearing this, Lia inwardly complained. President Holt, that’s not how it works!
If they were going to buy time, of course, the longer the better. Maybe they could find the little boy’s real mother within those two days, and then she could get out of this awkward misunderstanding.
But as soon as Holt spoke, he closed off all their options. Two days was too short. What if they couldn’t find the little boy’s mother by then, and he came back to her?
Just thinking about it gave Lia a headache.
She then heard Holt continue, “Send for Dr. Chen.”
A doctor? Why send for a doctor? Lia tentatively asked, “Who is this Dr. Chen...?”
Holt looked at her expressionlessly and replied, “For a DNA test.”
