Chapter 3- The Alpha Daddy

1124 Words
I had it all figured out... A great, thriving business, a booming pack, and a wonderful daughter getting married soon. As a billionaire who wanted for nothing, I really couldn’t complain. But life has a way of shoving your shortcomings in your face, forcing you to deal with them whether you like it or not. To this day, I wonder why, 23 years ago, Maya chose him over me leaving behind our little family, her infant daughter, the lovely life we had built together. Today was a painful reminder of what I once had but lost. The pain felt almost alive, fresh, impossible to ignore. “Hi, Daddy! What’s good?” Flora’s voice chirped through the phone, higher than the chiming of any bells. “Guess what?” she asked. I turned in my office chair, unable to guess. “I don’t know, baby girl. You tell me,” I said. “I’m coming home for the holidays!” she yelled, excitement practically vibrating through the line. “When should I expect you?” I asked, trying to keep my tone casual. “Today!” she said casually, as if dropping that bomb wasn’t shocking at all. “Today? But baby girl, I have to prepare the house for your arrival,” I said, getting up from my chair and heading to the kitchen to inform the chef. “Oh, Daddy, I just thought I’d surprise you! And ooh… my friend Elara will be there too!” Then flora chimed in, suggesting we could all have a family dinner for Thanksgiving while she made her “surprise announcement.” Why did I feel like this visit would change the course of my life forever? I hummed to myself later on as I watched from the floor-to-ceiling windows in my study. The snow had fallen so hard the ground looked like it had been dusted with powdered sugar. Trees were coated in white, and the world outside looked peaceful and untouched. It was a rich sight, and my wolf wanted out. Not long after, I found myself testing through the woods in a full sprint, my claws unintentionally digging into the snow, leaving huge footprints behind. The cold air was heavenly against my skin. I ran to the edge of the mountains overlooking my territory and lay down at the edge of the cliff. Something in the air felt strange today—almost as if I could sense that something big was about to happen. The sun was shining bright, reflecting off the snow, blindingly beautiful. Regardless of anything, my little baby girl was coming home today. --- The Christmas spirit sparkled in my home. Workers bustled about, ensuring every detail was perfect. The enormous Christmas tree by the fireplace in the living room was ready for our family tradition of decorating together. Cookies, both soft and crunchy, were lined up on trays, and soft music played in the background. Wreaths hung on every door, lights and green and red ornaments making the walls feel homey and warm. As cheesy as it may sound, I believed Christmas was the best season ever. After Maya, who would have thought I’d desire love again? And yet, here I was, wishing there was someone to love… someone to waltz with me in this grand ballroom. I walked through the room, imagining it packed with pack members in a few weeks for our holiday celebrations. --- The time had come, and they had arrived. For some reason, I wanted to look my best—I didn’t know why. I donned a figure-hugging green sweatshirt that accentuated my muscles and loose flannel jeans. I spritzed on my favorite musk perfume, styled my hair with my preferred curl gel, and glanced in the mirror one last time before heading downstairs. “Is there a reason you look this good, Mr. Cheyenne?” my housekeeper, more like a mother to me, asked with a warm smile. “I don’t know, ma… it’s just… Flora’s coming. I guess I want to look good for her,” I shrugged. “It’s okay, baby. You always look good anyway. If I were younger, I’d be all over you like white on rice,” she joked, making me laugh. “Okay, ma,” I said, smiling. “Alright,” she said just before a knock sounded on the door. “Hold on, let me get that,” I called. --- “Hi, baby girl!” I said to Flora as she bounced into the house. “Hi, Daddy!” she chirped, eyes wide. “Hmm, what smells good in here, Mrs. Cheyenne?” She ran off to the kitchen, scavenging for food. Typical Flora. I shook my head with a smile. Then I noticed a new, intoxicating scent in the room not food, not cookies. Sweeter, like honey and maple syrup on pancakes. I couldn’t place it, but my wolf recognized it instantly. Hearts racing, senses alert, I tracked the scent to the most gorgeous, thick, brown-skinned beauty. Her innocence radiated off her, intoxicating and pure. Curly hair framed her head like a halo, and black tights hugged her thick thighs perfectly. She was breathtaking. My brain froze as she timidly climbed the stairs. And then it hit me like a ton of bricks: MATE. She spoke, but I heard nothing except the realization that the goddess had decided to bless me with another mate. What do I do? --- Elara’s POV It wasn’t his hair as much as his height, his presence, his sheer godlike aura. Standing in front of me, my body reacted in ways I’d never imagined. I’d never felt such a visceral pull toward anyone on this earth. Power radiated from him, nearly knocking me off my feet. I was transfixed… and then he smiled, turned, and walked away, disappearing as fast as he had come. “Come in, Elara stop standing at the door like a statue.” Flora’s voice dragged me back to reality. “There are chocolate chip cookies your favorite,” she said, pulling me into the kitchen. But all I could think about was the god who had just appeared, swept me off my feet with his presence, and vanished just as quickly. --- I let out a shaky breath, feeling every nerve in my body alert, aware that my life had just changed forever. That man… he wasn’t just anyone. He was an Alpha male, one whose dominance was larger than life itself and I had no idea how I was supposed to handle the truth of that. But for now, I had cookies to eat, a best friend by my side, and the first taste of a holiday that would never be the same again.
