The house was massive. The ceilings soared so high that even at the top of the grand staircases, it would be impossible to reach them. Yet, despite its enormity, the mansion exuded a warmth that made it feel alive. Every corner, every shadow, every carefully placed ornament seemed to hum with the energy of Christmas and of love.
But the house itself was gorgeous. I knew that if I lived here, I would never go outside. The idea of wandering these halls, getting lost in its luxury, was far too tempting. The windows revealed snow-draped grounds, the kind of landscape that belonged in magazines, and the smell of pine and cinnamon hung faintly in the air. Here, Christmas wasn’t just a season it was a presence.
“It’s clear love lives here…” Flora said, swinging open the enormous doors to what looked like a room the size of Texas, literally. Two double beds, spacious bathrooms, everything pristine and perfectly arranged. Her eyes sparkled as she flopped onto the bed on the right. “Home sweet home,” she breathed.
“Wow…” I couldn’t form words. Every inch of the room screamed opulence, comfort, and the kind of life I’d only glimpsed in movies. The tall windows framed the snowy grounds outside, letting in golden sunlight that made the polished floors gleam.
“Will you leave the doorway and unpack? We have a lot to do today Dad, neighbors, the kids at the recital… they’ve missed me,” Flora said, trying to draw me in. But I barely heard her. My gaze had drifted across the room, to the floor-to-ceiling windows at the far end, where her father—the Greek god himself stood speaking to men who looked like enforcers.
They hung on his every word. I would have too. The way he commanded attention without raising his voice, the way his posture demanded respect it was mesmerizing. He was clearly someone important, perhaps the mayor, perhaps head of the town. I wouldn’t put it past him.
I wondered what Flora would do if she knew I’d secretly harbored a crush on her father. She’d scream. Then probably kill me. I wasn’t going to admit it.
I continued watching, unnoticed, while Flora tapped and sorted nearby. But suddenly, he looked up. Our eyes met. My entire body froze, like a deer caught in headlights. The world seemed to shrink. My heart raced, my chest tightened, and before I knew it, I bolted to my bed, collapsing onto the soft mattress while pressing a hand to my chest, trying to slow my rapid breathing.
“Elara,” Flora said, concern knitting her brow. “Why do you look like you’ve seen a ghost?”
“It’s nothing. I’m fine,” I stammered, forcing a smile that barely hid my racing pulse.
“Are you sure? You don’t like the room? I could get us another one…” she asked, genuinely worried.
“It’s perfect. I love it. I love you,” I said, running to hug her tightly.
“Thank you for coming with me,” she said, pulling back slightly to study my face.
“Well, I’m glad I did,” I replied. “If not, I’d have missed seeing all this wonder.”
“I love you,” I said again, hugging her tightly, silently promising myself to avoid her father for as long as I could.
Jonathan POV
I returned to my study, staring at my reflection while nursing a glass of fine whiskey. How? Was this some cruel joke by the Moon Goddess? A girl my daughter’s age her best friend, no less suddenly standing in my life, drawing my wolf like a moth to flame. Insane. Yet undeniably beautiful. Gorgeous.
And human.
This complication was unwanted. I leaned heavily on the mahogany desk, staring out the window. The snow sparkled, blanketing the grounds in white, but it did nothing to calm my thoughts.
I needed a distraction.
…
I called my beta, Ethan, and the enforcers, along with the new Delta Flora’s fiancé, Matt to coordinate pack security.
“Ethan, oversee all borders: west, south, north. No loopholes. Enforcers must patrol every inch,” I instructed.
“Yes, Alpha,” he replied, a smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth.
I laughed softly. Authority mattered, but family mattered more. My father had ruled with an iron fist, crushing lives under the guise of loyalty. I ran things differently. Balance. Respect. Brotherhood.
“Delta Matt, ensure all enforcers are trained and ready to defend the borders,” I said. Matt nodded. Reliable. Solid. My daughter was in good hands.
“Alright, daily reports start tomorrow,” I added, dismissing them until I felt a curious gaze on me. Pretending not to notice, I turned.
And there she was. My gorgeous mate. Shock written across her delicate features. She noticed me then quickly, almost shyly, turned away and disappeared from the window, retreating to the safety of her own space.
I couldn’t help but smile. Cute. Delicious. Perfect.
My wolf, Draydon, thought, lust and admiration surging. “I’ll mark her as mine forever.”
apparently even losing Maya hadn’t dulled my wolf’s instincts.
“I want her. She’s mine,” Draydon growled, muscles coiling, heart racing.
“Alpha Jonathan, is that all?” Ethan’s voice cut through my thoughts, pulling me back to reality.
“Yes, for now. You can go,” I said. The enforcers filed out.
All left except Ethan.
“Don’t tell me it’s what I think,” he said cautiously.
“Yes,” I confirmed, staring out the window, watching her small figure fade from view. “The Moon Goddess has blessed me with a second-chance mate.”
I wondered how her arrival would change everything. My life. My pack. My heart.
Elara POV
Later that night, I dreamed I was running among wolves. They surrounded me, circling, red eyes glowing in the darkness. One massive wolf lunged forward but another, even larger, leapt in, shielding me from harm.
I cried, hugging and kissing the wounded protective wolf, terrified yet strangely comforted. Its warmth, strength, and unwavering devotion are evidently present My mind spun with questions: Who was this wolf? Why did I feel so connected to it?
Tears streamed down my face even in the dream. And then I woke abruptly, heart pounding, sheets dampened by my tears.
I sat up, shivering despite the warm blankets. The memory of the wolf’s eyes lingered, fierce yet protective, and my body hummed with a strange, unfamiliar tension. My pulse had not returned to normal. I couldn’t shake the feeling that something or someone was coming.
The house was silent around me, but my mind raced with possibilities. This was not just any dream. It was a warning… a promise…. My first instincts whispered that life as I knew it had just shifted irreversibly forever.
I wrapped myself tighter in the blankets, forcing my thoughts to stay grounded, but deep down, I knew: nothing would ever be the same again.
