I should have been tired. The evening had gone well better than well if I'm being honest, which I'm trying to be and by the time I got home it was late and I should have gone straight to bed. Instead I ended up just standing in my kitchen still in my coat, not doing anything in particular. Thinking about the evening. His laugh kept coming back the unguarded one, nothing rehearsed about it. I'd gotten that twice and I knew I was keeping score and I couldn't quite make myself stop. The tea went cold. I didn't notice until I finally picked it up and it was room temperature and I'd completely lost the thread of what I was even doing. Eventually I took the coat off. Washed my face.
