She pulled him out of the house holding his hands, much to his disgust.
"I said I was fine. didn't I?. I don't need your help". Emeka said stopping to look at her face. He then added.
" Uhm I thought there was supposed to be a war, where do I get the gun and a jet " .
"Well you are not getting anything right now..... And jets go to renowned pilots only. I'm taking you somewhere safe for now... You can't fight like this....... if we spend any more time talking here where I'm taking you to won't be a safe place anymore, and besides you are not strong enough for combat yet" She said and tried to pull him.
" What....... You've got to be kidding me right now. I told you I'm okay..... I don't need any help ..... I don't want to go anywhere...... Besides how'd I know you don't want to kill me ...... Or you're not some Katangan machinery, paid to kill me..... I don't even know your name".
" wake up Mister we're in Nigeria not Katanga....... We need to move right now............Alright...... I'm Adaobi but you can call me Ada. That being said... Let's get the hell out of here". She said and this time he followed behind her.
The turmoil on the streets was over the roof. Emeka was taken aback by the scene. He had been in a lot of wars in a short time, but none of them looked like this. Everyone lumbered towards a particular direction. Almost everyone looked like a walking skeleton.
"Wait a minute.. We're all going to the same place?" Emeka asked obviously bewildered.
"Well yes we all are... Any prob....". Before she could finish someone cut in from behind.
" Hey Ada. Don't tell me that this power man is not going to fight." She leaned in on Ada's shoulders and whispered into her ears.
" Look at him... He looks so strong. So so strong ".
" Come on Chidinma.. You didn't even ask me who he was".
"OK..... Who is he?"
"Introduction is not so important right now.... Maybe we should get somewhere safe first?" Ada said looking at her so hard, she couldn't even hide her repugnance.
"It's ok". She said without showing any form of penitence.
They continued on their journey to the "safe place" as Ada called it.
"We're here .... Just find somewhere to fix yourself around this rock. This place have really saved us a whole lot of casualties since we figured it". Ada said smiling at Emeka
" Alright... This is messed up.. I can't just sit here doing nothing". Emeka said
"You're not strong enough to fight... You just woke up from a five years... oh sorry seven years comma." Ada said trying to pull him.
"It's not your decision to make Ada. . I said I'm strong". Emeka said
" Errrr.... It is my decision to make..... I'm your doctor remember, or did the knock on your head affect your memory too,? ". Ada said humorously
Emeka just stood there staring at her. After a long stare he finally succumbed and followed her in.
They went down to a bedrock.
The soldiers formed defensive line up just out of site of the rock. The Nigerian soldiers were pushed back to the outskirts of the village, but the battle was far from over. Soon the Ammo tanks rolled in for the Nigerian soldiers, it was the big game changer for the soldiers. There were no ammo tanks in the village and no form of defense against one. The men skittered in all direction but the one that led to the rock. The Nigerian soldiers on foot chased after them, the ammo tanks just kept blowing everything in its part up.
Astoundingly even for him, Emeka could sense what was going down in the battle field from the bedrock where he lain.
"I'm sorry to disobey you doctor but a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do... And your men are not doing so well fending their attacks... In no time this place would go down if nothing is done." Emeka said and crawled out of the bedrock.
Ada tried to no avail to stop him. He ran in the direction of one of the ammo tanks already closing down on the rock. As he ran, quicker than usual, closing down on the tank, the men inside the tank noticed this rapid motion and started shooting at him.
Surprisingly, even to him nothing would hit him directly. The ones that landed just beside him had little or no effect whatsoever on him. These were all new to him, he had never taking this much risk in his entire life before, but he just couldn't control his urge to keep surging forward.
Finally he got to the armoured tank, he jumped on it. With superhuman strength he ripped open the tank top. The men inside obviously scared to their bones surrendered themselves willing. This singular act of his turned the tides of things drastically, The Biafran soldiers had the upper hand. Most of the Nigerian soldiers that were not already severely injured surrendered.
It was a victory that was farfetched.
