CHAPTER ONE: THE TAKING

EMPRESS POV.

I had never imagined that an ordinary could turn into something that I could not recognize. It was not long after I finished tending to the vegetable garden outside our cottage when the ground shook beneath me. At first, it was subtle but after a while, it escalated. I have not experienced this in my life before. I felt shivers run down my spine. My village has not experienced such before. The rumble looked like an earthquake but it was not.

I didn't get a chance to know what it was all about.

I saw from the edge of the forest the trees shook and parted, and then the wolves showed up. Is it the footsteps of the wolves that were causing a rumble that looked like an earthquake?.. The wolves were not smiling and why were they here? I thought aloud.

If only I knew they were here to kidnap me, I would have escaped.

Their eyes shone like fire. I could sense danger. My heart jumped into my chest. The way everything was going, I wanted to run home to warn my father but before I could take a step, a shadow blocked my path.. Everything was happening so fast.

A figure that looked like a human, very tall and imposing walked up to me. Looking at him, I couldn't breathe or think.

The man's presence overwhelmed me because he was a force of nature. "EMPRESS", he said, his voice very low yet commanding the impossible to ignore.

“How did he know my name?”I thought.

I didn't move I couldn't move. I wanted to run, to escape but my legs couldn't carry me because they were frozen. This was not an ordinary man, it was not an ordinary wolf. He was something different. How can the presence of his being cause me all these?

I've heard stories of the Lunar pack but they were legends and myths that were told to frighten children. The stories were too dangerous, and so powerful that I never imagined they would be real until this day.

"You're coming with me right now", the man declared in his hoarse voice, stepping closer.

Before I could react, the wolves surrounding me lunged. They were looking like humans before now, but suddenly, they took on their wolf forms. What I saw scared me, I wanted to run but it was already too late.

Immediately, clawed hands grabbed me, and I screamed, trying to break from their grip, but they were too strong. Their touch was like fire on my skin. My heart was gasping for breath as they dragged me towards Leo, whose cold eyes were unblinking.

"You will be mine," Leo said, his voice so possessive.

"What do you want from me?"I spat, my throat was tight and my voice was shaking.

Leo smiled then, a slow, dark smile. "You are my Luna. Chosen by the moon". "What exactly is he talking about?Luna?Are you sure he's not insane?" I asked myself.

I was still under the grip of the wolves' hands.

"No!!!! I won't go with you, Never.

Leo did not say away a word. Instead, he raised his hand and the wolves halted in the air like a taut.

."I don't take no for an answer, "Leo said, almost amused."You're becoming stubborn but I'll allow you to come willingly with nobody forcing you.

His voice was chilling, dark, and old. The word "Luna "kept echoing in my mind. I don't know the meaning of Luna but something in me kept telling me that it meant something that won't suit me.

Something that looked like an inner voice kept telling me that my life was never going to be the same again and I somehow believed it because I knew something ahead was above me.

They interrupted my thoughts by hauling me to my feet, forcing my body to move forward; though everything told me to fight, how could I fight this monstrous wolf? Leo's wolves wouldn't let me be, they held me with an unyielding grip. The shadows of the forest deepened as we made our way to the pack's territory.

"Who's this man? Why is he doing this and what is happening? I thought aloud. I could not understand what was happening.

And then, I realized something, that this was not an ordinary kidnapping neither was it a wolf pack raiding a village for revenge or food. There was something more.

It's either someone arranged that I should be sold out because everything was happening so fast.

“What exactly did Leo want to do with me” I wondered.

I found out that Leo was the Alpha. The head of the other wolves. The pack leader ruled them all and they paid so much allegiance to him.

This whole thing was just playing like a movie to me. I have heard stories about the Alpha of the Lunar Pack, the one who is in charge of other wolves and commands them with a single word. I have heard all these but never believed in any of them until this day.

As we reached the place where the camp was set up, I saw massive tents.

Leo's eyes never left me as he stepped up to a large stone platform, where the wolves would always gather around him. They reverence him a lot. His power was indeed palpable.

All the wolves were on their knees while he was the one standing on the platform and addressing them. And I was shocked by the force of his presence. He was not just a leader but a king, king of the beasts. The wolves only take instruction at the sound of his voice, which is his instruction. The wolf dares to question his authority for any reason.

"Alpha", a voice called from the crowd, and I turned to the side to see a very tall and muscular figure -his beta. I assume he appeared from the shadows; his eyes were plain green and looked somehow mysterious, like Leo.

"Ryker, take her inside” Alpha commanded.

The tall and muscular being held me with his claws that blood was almost gushing out of my hands.

“I heard you're very stubborn; I know how to handle a stubborn fellow like you”, He roared.

It was at this juncture that it became very clear to me that I’d been kidnapped and sold out to a very mysterious being. It was thought that at this point scales fell from my eyes.

I started shouting my father and mother's name for them to come and rescue me because I knew I was damned.

“Could it be because of love that this mysterious being kidnapped me? Never!!

This can't be”.I thought aloud.

I was still screaming and shouting when Leo walked up to me.

“You're disturbing my pack with your shouts. I already warned you the first time we met on what to do, but if not, I'll deal with you here the way you’ll not like,” Leo said, looking into my eyes.

At one point I was filled with fear and anger. I was afraid because I didn't know whether he was going to kill me and I was angry because of his level of possessiveness towards me as though he owned me.

“I owe you now. You’re now in my pack. You belong to me forever” Leo said as though he was reading my heart.

As Ryker took me inside, I ran outside again, trying to escape, but I couldn't because the security was very strong.

I heard Leo calling the other wolves for an emergency meeting. They all gathered at their normal spot and Leo started addressing them.

“Our rival pack is threatening to destroy us, so before they attack us, let's do that to them first. So how do we achieve this?”He asked

I have an Idea, Ryker raised his hand.

“Since they've said they will destroy us, it simply means it's something they’ve been planning a long time ago. So I suggest we lay an ambush which they won't know about and that way we can destroy them before they start destroying us.”He said

“You know the Alpha of our rival pack is very smart but we can outsmart him,” Ryker continued.

I was outside listening to all they were saying and it amazes me how Leo has so much control over the other wolves that they're ready to displease themselves to please him.

After the meeting, Leo left, and the pack elders stayed back for an emergency meeting without the consent of Leo to discuss the implications of my coming to the pack. They were already uneasy about the idea of me, being the Luna and a human. They thought I had a dual nature and feared it would create tension and instability within the pack.

"The truth is that we cannot allow this to continue, which is Empress being our Luna. We need to act fast before it's too late, "one of the elders growled."A human as our Luna? It's unheard of.

The other elders nodded in agreement and echoed together"It's unheard of".

“I also want to suggest we call Leo in order and tell him what we came up with,” Another elder said.

They all agreed on that and fixed a date for it.

I, however, was unaware of the elders' concern until now. I was busy thinking about how to escape from the custody of Leo. Little did I know, the Pack elders were planning to make a move that would change everything.

Leo sighted me from where I was standing, shaking my head and muttering words.

“My Luna, what are you doing there?”.I thought Ryker took you inside. What are you doing outside? He asked.

I pretended not to hear what he said and ignored him, turning my face to the other side.

“I see you like to be treated harshly. You don't like taking instructions right? Leo said, with fury written on her face.

“Ryker, Ryker “Take Empress to the dungeon. I have to punish her for her disobedience and stubbornness.

What level of wickedness is this? Is it wrong for someone to advocate for her freedom? I’m finished.
