Chapter Eleven

When I woke slowly returning to consciousness I realized I was in someones arms. Fluttering open, my eyes struggled to focus on who it was holding me. “Waylon…” I said. “I’m right here.” He said holding me to his chest. “You’re lucky she made it out of that!!” I heard Athen yell in the background. “Calm down, mamma said he warned her this could happen and she did it willingly!” There was Callen. Their voices got closer I felt other hands on me, one on my arm, one on my leg. I willed myself to sit up and blinked a few fast times until I could see more clearly. All three of the boys were there, I was on Waylons lap and Athen and Callen were kneeling by my side on the ground. As I surveyed the room I saw scorch marks encircling where my body had been on the floor.  “Guys, what happened?” I said as I touched the singed carpet with the tips of my fingers. “You.. uh, sort of burst into a ball of light there for a second and you were screaming like you were dying.” Athen said. Callen replied, “We were f*****g terrified you were gone there for a second.” “But then the light was gone and you were just laying here on the ground before you came to a few minutes ago.” Waylon finished.  “Do you feel any different? Your essence? Do you feel your powers more? You must be exhausted but I have to ask, we need to know if this was worth it… if it worked.” Elder Mikhail said as he walked towards us from across the room holding his massive book in his hands. “Can you give her a minute man?” Waylon snarled. I placed my hand on his cheek and immediately he seemed to calm down, his features softened and a slight smile played upon his lips. “I’m fine actually. I felt really groggy at first but, now I feel completely fine.” I got to my feet, a little shaky but steadied myself and began to walk out of the house. I felt different, I felt everything and I mean EVERYTHING. I could feel the wind on my skin, the sun beating down on the top of my head heating each strand of hair upon it, I could even feel the water flowing in the air around me, the earth steady under my shoes. Without even knowing what I was trying to do I quickly raised my hand in front of me and opened my fingers to lay my hand flat and in an instant a blue flame came to life in front of my eyes. I closed my hand and crossed my arms over my chest then brought them out again palms facing each other and I saw the molecules of water coming together out of thin air and forming a sphere between my outstretched arms. I held them steady and threw my hands to my sides and the water fell at my feet. I pushed my arms out again, this time imagining that I was pushing with all my strength and without warning the scorched tree from my unintentional attempt to harness my half freed powers was pushed up out of the soil that held its roots in place and fell over onto the grass. I then swirled my hands above my and spun around and it seemed like the wind itself came from my fingers tips, I blew the screen door shut with such ferocity it slammed to the porch after falling off it’s hinges. I was panting my chest heaving up and down from the effort I’d just thrust forth into the magical display. A smile fell across my lips and suddenly I was laughing, it grew louder and shook my whole body. I was gripping my belly and rolling with the force of my giggles and everyone had cultivated on the porch to watch me. They walked towards me a little apprehensive at first but Aunt Marg wrapped her arms around me and Mikhail came and placed his hand on my shoulder in a comforting way and we all laughed. Finally, after a few moments we all collected ourselves and I could speak. “This is all surreal I can’t believe how much my life has changed over the last few weeks, some for the better and some…” I stopped and thought about my parents. “I just wish mom and dad could be here to see this.” Aunt marg cupped my face in her hands and forced me into a bear hug of epic proportions.  “Sweet girl they would be more than proud of how strong you’ve been through all this trust and believe that. And I know it’s not the same but me and your uncle are also SO proud of you.” She smiled sweetly and tucked a piece of her fire red hair behind her ear. It felt good to hear that I had to admit. The guilt from the anger I felt for my mothers secrets had been eating me alive but I know she did what she thought was best. I surveyed the crowd and saw each in turn the faces of Athen, Waylon and Callen… now all I had to do was master these new powers by my 18th birthday and figure out which one of these boys was my true soul mate and wouldn’t turn all of magic dark for the next 1,000 years. I spent the rest of the afternoon practicing my powers with my new family. Ms. Loretta had a lot to teach me about air magic, Marg and Athen showed me a few tricks when it came to fire, Waylon and Arthur had water covered and Callen took the lead with earth. Everything was so different, where I strained to perform basic tasks they felt like second nature now. Mikhail suggested keeping my powers a secret until my devotion ceremony the only people to know being the Elders and those who resided on the Wittens property, we all agreed the last thing I needed was to feel like a circus animal while I tried to find my footing in my new life. Mikhail stayed with us for another few days, watching over my lessons and studying my progress to report back to the elders waiting for his return, no one would have guessed I had been bound my whole life watching how naturally all of this came to me since we broke the spell. At last he was confident we had done everything correctly and that there were no side effects from the binding and decided to go back home, it was a little emotional for me but he assured me this was just goodbye for now not forever, I would see him in a few weeks time when we all would gather together to witness Callen devote himself to the Goddess and I felt better.  The next day Callen and I stood in the library studying techniques and enchantments. We were huddled close over an old leather spell book passed down generations by Arthurs side of the family. “You’re so good at this.” He said to me. I looked over and he was starring at me with a look of pure adoration, but I could see something else behind his eyes… jealousy? Envy? He placed his hand on mine and I forgot what I was thinking about. I smiled back at him. “It’s because you’ve been here with me the whole time making sure I don’t give up.” I said. His smile grew wider, and before I knew what was happening he quickly swiped the book over, picked me up and placed me on the table positioning his body between my legs and pressing himself against me. I began to breathe heavy and whispered, “someone could come in at any moment Callen…” He moved his face close to mine, dragging his nose along my cheek, I could feel his warm breath on my skin and it sent chills down my spine. I could smell his sweet musk, it smelled like old books, soil, and his intoxicating aftershave which sent my mind and loins into a frenzy.  “I don’t care if someone comes in I need you.” He placed his hand between my legs and began to rub me in the exact right spot over my jeans, his other hand grabbed the back of my neck to help me from falling over as I threw my head back and gasped in pleasure. His lips found my mouth and his tongue explored mine dancing around as our chests heaved up and down and his hand continued to pleasure me. “I can feel your wetness coming through your jeans…” He said briefly giving our mouths a moment of respite. I couldn’t control myself, this longing… it was taking me over completely, I looked into his eyes and it was as if he could hear me speaking the words aloud without making a sound. Callen swept his arm over the table and in one motion he cleared it of its books, papers and learning materials and leaned me onto it straddling me and I scooted my back further to lay flat and welcome his mouth back to mine. I lost track of time for a while all I could do was taste him, feel him and I couldn’t get enough. He began to unbutton my jeans and something in the back of my head lit up. “No.” I said, barely above a whisper and Callen didn’t hear me. He unzipped me and began to pull the pants from my hips and without even making a move I felt my powers well inside of me and a massive gust of air magic emanated from my body and blew Callen to the floor. “I said no…” I said, again quietly. I don’t know what or why this feeling told me to end our encounter there but I had to trust the Goddess or what ever was guiding me I couldn’t force myself what ever choice I made had to feel.. like… fate. I jumped off the table zipping up my pants tears welling in my eyes and ran from the room as fast as my legs could carry me.  “Echo! Wait!” I heard him yell after me but I couldn’t turn around, the embarrassment over my powers reacting as they did and knowing I rejected him was too much to face right now. As I continued down the hall I rounded a corner trying to get to the back door and smashed face to chest with none other than… “Waylon!” I exclaimed. “Echo why are you crying?” His face furrowed into a scowl as he looked past me to see his brother fixing his shirt and pants disheveled and in an instant he was barreling past me to get to Callen. “WAYLON NO!”
