Ruby
Knocking on the office door, a man who I assume is the owner or previous owner, opens the door for me. "Hi, come on in." He gestures with his hand. "Thanks, I just stopped in to let Xander know something real quick." I then turn my head towards my friend. "Gabby and I are heading out, do you want us to wait for you or just text you where we will be?" I said text because that's what humans do. In reality, I would just mindlink him our location.
"We can continue tomorrow if you like, go enjoy your day with your friends." The manager guy chimes into our conversation. Xander stands from his seat and shakes hands with the guy. "Sounds good. Thank you again, Travis. This place is perfect. I've enjoyed doing business with you." Oh, so that's his name. Travis then sticks his hand out for me to shake. "I hope you love your birthday gift. It was very nice to meet you." He seems like a sweet guy and I've practically ignored him this whole time. "Yeah, you're a bitch." My wolf decides to add in.
"This place and the employees are lovely. I can tell a lot of blood and sweat went into making this pub the way it is. So, thank YOU, Travis." His face beams with pride and I can't help but smile back.
"Have a good day you guys. I'll see you tomorrow, Xander." Waving, we both leave the office. Gabby was waiting outside for us and we proceed to pile into Xander's car. "So, what do you think?" Gabby excitedly asks. Is she really asking about my mate in front of Xander? "Yeah, what do you think, Ruby?" Xander also questions.
"About what?" The second I ask, my wolf starts laughing at me. "The pub, you dumbass." Before either one of my friends answers my question, I speak again. "OH! The pub? I absolutely love it! Thank you so much! Gabby was telling me that it's from you both and your parents. Who do you have in mind to run the place?"
"Your parents." They say simultaneously. I was surprised for a split second, but it does seem perfect for them. They're retired from running the pack and this seems perfect for them. My mother loves numbers and paperwork, while my dad loves food and drinking. They're both social butterflies, so they will do great with customers.
"Wow, you guys really put a lot of thought into this. I seriously can't thank you enough. This is such an amazing gift. I can't believe I have a pub named after me. That's crazy!"
"Yeah, yeah. So, the next stop is coming up. Let me when you're ready to leave ladies.I'll be right upstairs." I look at Xander confused as he tightens his knuckles around the steering wheel. "You're not joining us?" I ask, causing Gabby to burst into laughter. Oh sweet moon goddess, where are they taking me?
He gives me a forced smile, "It's not really my scene, but promise me you won't leave Gabby's side?" I begin to feel nervous, but relax when I think about who I'm with. The two would never put me in danger, not that I wouldn't be able to handle myself anyway. But, still. "I promise, Xander." He gives a real smile this time upon hearing me say his name.
Pulling along a curb, I look around at the businesses and try to guess where we are going. Nothing really screams, excitement. Xander opens the door for me and I grab his hand as he helps me out of the car. "Gee, thanks!" Gabby huffs playfully as she slams her door. "Okay, let's go get this over with." Xander mumbles under his breath, but of course Gabby and I heard him. Pulling my hand eagerly, Gabby leads us to a building with a sign that says, Harry's Bookstore.
I mean, I do love reading in the little bit of free time I get, but the packhouse library has every single book you could ever imagine. Xander holds the entrance door open for us, and we thank him as we walk in. It looks just like any other library in the world. Walking up to the front desk, Gabby whispers something to the librarian that I couldn't hear.
The old lady types something into her computer, then hands Gabby a library card. I look around again and see a handful of humans scrolling through books on the shelves or sitting down at a table reading. Nothing out of the ordinary. Still, I can sense Xander's uneasiness beside me and practically see Gabby's excitement as she resists the urge to run to us. "Follow me!" She exclaims through mindlink. Doing as she says, we follow her to a set of stairs that lead us to a second floor of more books.
I freeze when she stops in front of a door that says employee restroom. Um, what in the actual f**k? A bathroom? Taking the card she had in hand, she swipes it on the keypad thing under the door handle. "You go first." She says to Xander. He rolls his eyes, but goes in. Gabby looks at the clock and waits two minutes before she opens the door again. "Okay, your turn, Ruby." My eyes widen at her. "What do you think you're doing! I'm not going into a small bathroom with Xander. I don't know what kind of sick game you guys are up to, but I'm not participating." I practically growl at her through link. She has the audacity to roll her eyes at me as if I'm being dramatic. "Do you really think I would choose a human bathroom as a makeout spot for you and Xander? Especially after what we just found out at the pub? I thought you trusted me, Ruby."
Guilt eats at me from her words. "I'm sorry. I do trust you guys. You're my best friends."
"Good, now go while nobody is looking!" Opening the bathroom door quickly, she shoves me in.
