The moonlight was slowly being replaced by dawn. The dew on the grass smelt sweet and the quiet intermittent bird song was slowly rousing me from sleep. I ran my hands over the thick damp grass and watched as my breath formed delicate clouds above me. A sigh rose within me, a feeling of relaxation and completion like the kind you get after finishing a long and arduous task.
Jet and Jed were sat at the edge of the circular clearing on a fallen log whispering unaware of my rousing and seemingly forgetting now bonded I could hear them no matter how quiet they attempted to be. My already pretty awesome wolf hearing had now increased due to the bond, all my senses and abilities would now high-ten and mature. “We need to see alpha Vincent as soon as she’s awake, I think if we don’t after his instruction it could make this more complicated.” His solemn tone carried to my ears. “Yeah I get that but what about the father? Bonded or not he didn’t seam pleased and I didn’t get the impression he’s going to let this go easily” Jed replied with more concern in his voice. “I mean it would have been complicated if Caroline was our mate but with the fathers reaction what it was I’m not sure how this will play out” I gently groaned and rubbed my eyes making my self known and halting their conversation in its tracks. I was expecting them to race to my side but instead they both grinned in my direction and slowly sauntered towards me. I noted they were still bare foot and topless, I had Jed’s shirt on, they had dressed me! Of course I was grateful but concerned I had passed out and slept heavily enough it allowed them to do this without my knowledge and I now suddenly felt very vulnerable.
“Morning beautiful” they said in unison and one sat either side of me helping me sit up. “It’s still early, there’s no rush” Jed said soothingly noticing my winch at the stinging in my crutch. They must have read my mind at my concern, “it’s normal, there’s nothing wrong, in fact you did amazing”. I was suddenly very aware I didn’t remember anything after marking them. “Did I pass out?” I asked embarrassed. Jed grinned and giggled out “na more like a c*m coma”. Jet shot him a look, the sort that sparks the if looks could kill kinda comment and I noticed I couldn’t hear them. “Why can’t I hear you?” I asked more awake now.
Jet moved himself more to my front to face me, “initially it’s instant but as time goes on it can be controlled, we’re Alphas and twins so our ability to control our abilities tends to mature and progress quickly, don’t worry baby we won’t ever lie to you if you want to know what we’re thinking just ask”. I guess that made sense plus males were generally stronger too, although I controlled my wolf pretty well last night I think. “Ok, so was that….was I….” I trailed off too embarrassed to finish. Jed obviously reading my mind clarified my question without me needing to finish it, “you were amazing and I mean that, normally mating for the bond like that isn’t as……sensual I guess is the word. Most of the time it’s messy and painful, female wolves in their first heat tend to be a bit more um forceful ya know more teeth and claws, less um submissive I guess” he blushed. “How did you control your wolf like that?” “I don’t really know” I replied “I guess it’s always been that way, like a battle in my head, i didn’t realise it was big deal” I shrugged and struggled to my feet. I was only wearing a shirt, I couldn’t go home dressed like this. I quickly found my clothes and retreated into the tree line to change, aware the twins had already seen me naked it still felt odd. The mating and bonding last night was lustful and almost out of my control, my heat made it impossible to say no. However now I felt more myself and came to the realisation that mates or not these were strangers I knew nothing about. I dressed slowly replaying the nights events in my mind. I ran my fingers threw the tangled birds nest that was my hair attempting some kind of taming but my hair band was no where to be found. My hair trailed around me, waves making it to my waist, I found my marks and traced them gently with my finger, they were still a little raised and sore in places but they would heal quickly leaving silvery marks as scars, this was the only wound ware-wolfs were unable to completely heal leaving no trace. Any other time we healed quickly and leaving no trace. Finishing up and finding a huge tree to hide behind to relieve myself before heading out I noticed a strange orange glow further into the woods. It was small and hard to focus on, moving slowly and casually amongst the under growth. I straightened myself up and slowly stalked towards it. I had to admit I was a pretty good hunter already, I could track down basically anything if I wanted to. As I grew closer I noticed it had some tones of red and white and was almost shaped like an animal. I sniffed the air and caught the of scent of rabbit, was this a rabbit? Why was it glowing like that? I grew closer still not taking my eyes from it almost 5 meters away and it was definitely a strange glowing rabbit. My curiosity was broken by Jet urgently calling me from the clearing, I turned to look in his direction and the strange rabbit was gone before I had a chance to examine it properly. “Jynx!? Baby are you ok?” The urgency and worry in his voice struck a cord inside of me I didn’t know I had. Like a sudden prang of worry deep in my gut and I had to get to him, I had to make sure he was ok. It was a bizarre feeling, of course he was ok I could tell he was just worrying in regards to my whereabouts but it was like I had the need to comfort him. I headed back to the clearing assessing this new found feeling, I knew the mate bond made it so we not only longed for our mates but protected them fiercely, however this isn’t what I had expected.
Jet and Jed both stood at the edge of the clearing were I had entered the wood watching intently at my every movement. I could see them examining me from my bare feet up to my flame red hair. “I’m ok I just got distracted” I muttered feeling a little unsure of myself now. I had always been confident and independent but now I felt like the new kid at school, being assessed and judged by my new classmates. “Baby you scared us.” Replied Jed rallying to my side and placing his hands either side of my face cupping it. He leaned in and kissed my forehead, “we thought you had got lost or something”. “So what now” I muttered in response all the while still longing to wrap my arms around Jet and comfort him, seeing him now visibly relaxing at my presence had made the intense feeling in the pit of my stomach subside though. “Well, Alpha Vincent told us to meet after…we’ll you know” he said smiling, “we don’t have to really but I think it’s best we do, you may no longer be part of his pack but all the same we don’t want to start anything we don’t have to” he continued. That’s when it hit me, I was no longer part of the pack! I had don’t it I was free but was the blackthorn pack any better. We all knew the story of the triplets especially me as my father was such a hero in the story. The stories were dark and full of hatred and judgement. What was I going to find and how on earth was I going to prepare for a new life in a new pack. Jasper had been right in his comments and always saying the grass isn’t always greener but I still wasn’t going to admit that to him.
Jed had released my hand made his way to my side sliding an arm around my waist. “Your not walking back like that” he announced and scooped me up off the floor like a bride being carried over the thresh hold and started to head for the pack house. My home although it wasn’t anymore.
