At first the Indians watched him closely but after a few months, when he had made no effort to escape, their vigilance began to relax and soon Jonathan was accepted among them with friendly greetings and camaraderie. His great strength and athletic skill soon made him a favorite among the younger braves, but it was his marksmanship that excited the attention of the seasoned warriors.
