One hour before the friendly game starts, people are queueing from the entrance of football field.
I can't believe I'm actually here. I looked at Brynne who volunteered to hold the sign to cheer Kale. It's way too hot outside, it just added to the reasons why my blood is boiling.
"Why won't they still let people in? For a while, let me just talk to the organizers." Aunrey and our everyone from our group were wowed when Brynne stepped up. The people lining in front of us recognized him and gave him way.
It's hard to see from my position now to check if he was able to talk with the organizers. But it's just right that they already let us in. I mean what's so special about this game? The ticket is already expensive as it is and now they are making us wait under the heat.
"Being a student council president indeed has perks!" Aubrey giggled when the oinr started moving. I sighed in relief.
This has been an echausting day. I just hope Kale would really win or he at least should score a goal.
"Your husband is here." Nate was pertaining to Brynne. He winked at us then spread his arms as if he did something good.
He referred to him as my husband because they got us married in the marriage booth. Brynne, who's always up for every challenge, agreed to everything they asked for. He even kissed me in the cheek.
Gladly,we're both cool about that. I already forgot everything that happened that day. All I want is to go home.
I got a little excited when we're finally near the gate. I saw a little part of the field and some players are already stretching.
"Aubrey, exchange seats with me." I heard Brynne told my bestfriend.
"Sure. What's your seat number?" She gave me a teasing look.
"Beside Nate. Nate!!!" He called him to go with Aubrey.
"Whyyy it's so far from us??" She shouted.
"It's so hard to get a ticket. I got this ticket from a junior high, you won't believe what I had to trade. It's fine. This seat is right behind the bench." Her jaw dropped, and she nodded. She seemed excited.
"Seriously?" I asked her.
"Sorry. I need this chance to get close with Sir Kale. Give me that, Brynne. I will cheer for him harder than anyone today." I bite my lower lip trying not to laugh. I just hope she won't embarrass him later. Let's see hpw he will react to that.
"You sure? Dude, why--" Before Nate could complain, Brynne already held my arm, and led me to our seat.
"We'll see you after the game." He said
We passed by at some of our blockmates. Kale should really do well.
We finally settled in our seat. Brynne handed me a bottled water. I mouthed thanks to him. The first person I looked for in the field was Kale of course. He never disappoints.
I hate that I can name almost all athletes from the opposing side. They are all popular. I'm not expecting anything from this game. Kid and Kale are talking about something, but they are both smiling wide. They are just among the most privileged people in the country.
"He looks interested in you. I mean Sir Kale." What Brynne said made me blush. My heart got excited with that statement.
"Absurd. He's interested to make me the next Math Association president." I explained.
I will never welcome that idea. Kale is not just anyone. he's a successful man with a lot of connections. Surely, there are many girls who are way too better than me who are obsessing over him.
Kid tapped Kale's shoulder then went to their other teammates. The professor then scanned the crowd as if looking for someone. Lookong really dashing in white fitted football uniform, Kale walked to the bench of their team. I saw familiar faces of cheerleaders with them.
I suddenly felt jealous for unknown reason.
"Do you like him too?" I chuckled with that question.
"Brynne, simply fantasizing about him seems to cost too much. I can't afford romance as of the moment. I have to work and try hard for my future. If I let the hurdles of life get in my way, I won't be anywhere. I wil be stuck forever in this situation where I pity myself for simply existing." He gave me a serious look.
"I don't know what kind of love you have seen to believe it is expensive. You always have this furious eyes, if you still don't know. The first time I talked to you, you gave an impression that you're independent, you don't need anyone. That was remarkable. I instantly want to know more about you. Sir Kale might have felt the same." I took a deep sigh and looked at the field again. Kale is now talking with one of the cheerleaders. I tried to ignore that, but it's really nerve-wracking.
"You're honest and gentle. This is the first time I heard that about myself. Can I ask a question?" He nodded then fondly stared down at me.
"Be honest. Did you ever find me pitiful?" I bite my lower lip. It's one thing I'm scared to ask to anyone.
He took a deep sigh as he removed a few strands of hair from my face. Darn the harsh wind.
"Nope. I never looked at you, and found you pitiful. But what's wrong about being pitiful? People are bound to suffer at least once in their life. As long as they get up everyday and find the courage to finish the day, that's good enough. Other people's opinion barely matters." I smiled.
"You sound like a grandpa. But thank you. You know that you're someone I want to keep as my friend forever. Aubrey and I have always been there for each other, but we also had a few instances when we both don't know what to tell each other. What you said is something Aubrey will never tell me. I wish you'd stay friends to us forever, Brynne. Moving forward, we might also help you in some other ways." I winked at him. He laughed at me while shaking his head.
"No problem, lady. I'll back you up for the rest my life. You can be vulnerable with me, I promose to do my best to make you feel okay again."
That's the most reassuring thing I have ever heard.
The football game started. Loud cheering from the crowd was heard when Kid Fontanilla kicled the ball. Kale received it and he rroed to enter the opponent's base. He ran and tried to keep the ball until he saw Douge free. He kicked the ball to him amd he tried to lose the guu guarding him.
I don't understand. He's running and sweating at the same time, yet he's still perfect. I saw him breathing heavily as the game progressed. I find him commanding yet gentle. Seven minutes passed, and no one has made a goal yet.
My eyes kept following Kale. I'm not interested with anyone else. I saw his cute reaction when he saw Aubrey holding the sign that we made a while ago. He seemed embarrassed, but he still boasted about it to his teammates. They made fun of him, but he still talked to Aubrey. Whatever he said, only him and Nate knew.
They huddled when a timeout was called. Kid Fontanilla, the president himself, was leading the quick strategy meeting. When the game resumed, Kale managed to scan the crowd again as if looking for someone. Deep in my heart, I wish it was me he's looking for. I might be one crazy woman to assume.
"Tom Irish?" I whispered when I find the guy guarding Kale familiar. He's one of the best football players in the country. Inkmow that he's in his senior year already, but is it fair to be competing in games like this? Whatever, he seemed too tough for Kale.
"They are overrating Sir Kale. He's not that good for them to assign two guards." Brynne bursted into laughter.
"He's pissed. He has the shortest temper ever." I answered then laugh too. I still wish he'd score a goal.
It was intense moment when Kale stole the ball from the opppnent. I saw his wide smile as he ran to the other direction. He kept running as he take a glimpsed around from time to time to check to whom he cam pass the ball. He's approaching the goal when he made a backheel kick. Val was there, so he tried to get closer to the goal. I already saw Kid running towards the goal. When Val made a curl kick, the crowd shouted. Kid was there to kick the ball to the goal, and yes we did score!
That was the first and last goal of the match. They ended the game with a handshake and also picture taking. Both teams exhibited a strong sportsmanship. And the people who made up the teams were also no joke.
"He just texted me, he's looking for you." I felt panic when he Brynne tapped my shoulder to say that. I looked at Kale and he's really holding his phone as if waiting for something.
"I-i won't go down there to start a rumor with him. Just tell him I'm not with you." I answered with a furrowed forehead.
"I already told him you're with me." I gave him a sharp look. He then showed me his ringing phone.
"Don't answer. Just let him get tired. I can't give what he wants anyway." He took a deep sigh and nodded. He declined the call then dialed Aubrey's number. We met at the covered court near the exit gate.
"We made a bet. If her voice becomes hoarse tomorrow, I'll get 20 thousand. All I cam hear was her cheer all throughout the game!!" Nate said as if pissed.
"Thanking you in advance, Nate. You have no idea how powerdul this throat is. Laurian amd I once attended a three-night concert of our fave kpop group. Our tonsils were just fine after those three wild nights we were singing along, cheering and shouting their names."
Nate gave her an amused look, but she did not see that, more like she did not really care.
"Kid Fontanilla is too good to be true. Her wife is the luckiest woman ever!" She shouted as she approached me. She told me everything that happened, and what Kale told her when he sae the sign. It was a simple thank you and he really did appreciate the effort.
"I understand youd effort on those kpop idols, but Sir Kale and even that Kid Fontanilla are far from them. Why would you shout and disgrsce yourself for them?" Aubrey turned to him. I immediately grabbed her shoulder.
"Disgrace?"
Nate laughed. They always get into argument whatever the situation or subject is.
"You know my bank account! I'll be waiting for my 20 thousand tomorrow." Aubrey said that then flipped her hair.
We had dinner all together. My whole body was aching when I got home. I nees to start working out again. Spending the whole day walking around the campus seriously was enough to tire me out. Nonetheless, this is memorable.
