The jingling of keys roused Caden from his stupor.
He blinked several times, wondering if the sound was real or part of the daydream he’d been entertaining. When the lock clicked and the cell door swung open, he had his answer. Captain Eduard stepped inside, and he didn’t look happy.
The small rectangular window high above him allowed just enough light into the cell for him to see that Eduard had a bundle of clothes tucked under his arm. The man’s jaw was clenched, and he walked over to the cot and set the clothes down, then unlocked the shackles from Caden’s wrists.
“What’s going on?” Caden asked.
“You’re being transferred to another Dominion, per Lord Klodian’s orders.”
