“A dragon?”
Caden didn’t think he heard the captain correctly.
“Aye, a dragon. You ever seen one up close?”
“No, thank the gods. My previous lord liked to hunt them for fun, but I’d rather avoid them.”
“You can stay behind if you want,” Burke said. “But I wouldn’t suggest it.”
Caden knew that if he didn’t go, his chance of earning Lord D’Lance’s trust would be gone. He was afraid of dragons, but who wasn’t? Burke didn’t seem to be. Caden knew he would have to push through the fear, but he wasn’t sure how.
“I’m going,” he said.
“Good. First things first. We need to get you some armor.”
“That’s what Commander Morin told me.”
“You’d be dead within seconds if a dragon flamed you, but we’ve got something that’ll stand up to dragon fire. Come on, we’ll get you fitted.”
