14 Caden scrambled ahead on all fours, grabbing the pendant and getting to his feet. Lord D’Lance was shouting incoherently behind him, but he ignored everything and ran along the street, turning down side alleys and zig-zagging his way through the city until he reached a random sewer grate. His side throbbed painfully, and he spared a few seconds to look down. Whatever had struck him had cut right through his chainmail. Blood soaked his clothes, and judging by the amount of blood that trailed behind him, he knew the wound was deep. He knelt and pulled the grate aside, clenching his teeth against the pain.
