Kai exhales slowly, the sound jarring against the happy cheers around him.
"As you can see," Theron says, pulling Kai's focus back, "the moon is at its peak." He glances at the sky where silver light spills down like liquid. "You know what that means. How will you protect her when everyone loses control? When the male wolves are driven by desire and decide to hunt? Will you fend them all off?"

"What precautions?" Theron's voice remains calm, but urgency seeps through. "Especially when you too will face the darkest punishment of the full moon for not having a mate yet?
