~ TRISTAN ~ “What’s wrong?!” Kye asked, worried. “It’s Hazel. Sh-she suddenly passed out, her breathing isn’t normal anymore, there’s no one around, and I can’t carry her to the hospital due to my pregnancy. I’m scared. She doesn’t look fine at all.” She said in one breath. “What the heck?!” I jerked to my feet and grabbed the phone from Kye's hand, placing it on my ear. “What is wrong with her? What happened?” “I don’t know.” I heard her wail. “Have you called an ambulance?!” I yelled. “N-no… I’m… I’ll… I’ll do it now… I....” She hung up. “What on Earth could be wrong with Hazel?” My heart was beating really fast. It felt as though my head had begun to rotate. “Man, this is—” “We have to return now.” I exhaled, sprinting out of the room. “Rob!” I called, pacing around impatiently while Kye caught up with me. For what took like forever, Rob was running in my direction with Mr. Beeharry tailing behind him. “Arrange for me to return home right now!” I ordered. I could feel beads of sweat on my forehead. “Return? But we have just started.” “Are you f*****g out of your mind?!” I barked at him. “My wife’s life is at stake! How dare you question my order?” “I’m—I’m sorry.” He apologized and dashed out of sight. “Mr. Hendrix, you’ll lose billions of dollars if you leave now. Can’t you make someone handle her from there?” I growled and wanted to grab his collar, but Kye stopped me and started pulling me away. “Stop it. Mr. Beeharry, the deal is canceled. Tristan, calm the f**k down.” “How can I calm down?!” My veins had almost popped out of my skin. What could be wrong with Hazel? Hazel couldn’t die or anything as crazy as that. Lord, please nothing should happen to my Hazel. *** Kye and I ran to meet Charlotte, who immediately fell into his arms, hugging him tightly. “Where’s she now? Is she fine?!” I asked, panting. “The doctor said she’s better now than yesterday.” She replied, pulling away from his chest. “What the heck is wrong with her? Wh—” “I also don’t know. Your parents were here yesterday and will be here soon. They spoke to the doctor. I didn’t have the courage to speak to what the doctor had to say.” She was nervously chewing on her fingernails. “Where is she? What room is she in? Who’s the doctor?” I was growing confused and impatient. “She’s in room 5K, but I think Hazel might be pregnant.” “Pregnant?” I stared at her with a disgust-filled expression —not intentionally though— while she nodded. I quickly went to the nurse for Hazel’s room number and I had to sign some stupid papers, though I didn’t want to, then we used the elevator to transport ourselves to the fifth floor. I spotted the room and was about to barge in, but a nurse stopped me. “Sir, I’m sorry, but you can’t go in now.” She said in a low-pitched voice. “Why not?! That’s my wife in there.” I retorted. “Yes, but you can’t go in yet. Please wait outside.” She took her leave afterwards. Raking a finger through my hair in frustration, I turned to Charlotte. “Why? Did the doctor say she’s pregnant? How can she be pregnant?” A strange form of anger was building from beneath my skin. “The doctor didn’t say it, but while I was with her, she showed a few pregnancy signs. I also had similar symptoms when I was pregnant. I can assure you she’s pregnant.” She said with a short smile. “That’d be great news, but I’m scared something bad has happened to her aside from being pregnant.” How could Hazel be pregnant? My anger was flooded with perplexity. I dropped to the chair, staring like a lost puppy. There was no way she could be pregnant, right? “Aren’t you happy she’s pregnant?” Kye asked, sitting beside me. “Lord please, Hazel mustn’t be pregnant.” I silently prayed. Nothing had happened between Hazel and me. How on Earth would she be pregnant? Hazel couldn't have cheated on me, could she? *** Mom and Dad were here earlier, trying to serve as a comfort, but nothing to comfort me. I was damn worried about Hazel, and mostly about the possibility of her being pregnant. They had left with Charlotte, but I was here, waiting for a doctor with Kye. “Mr. Hendrix,” someone I could identify as the doctor said as he approached me. “What’s wrong with my wife?” I had to stop myself from yelling. I was beyond frustrated from waiting and overthinking. “Please don’t tell me she’s pregnant.” “Why would a rich man like you be scared of the cost of a baby?” He snorted. Judgemental much. “I’m—” “Anyway, your wife isn’t pregnant.” An involuntary sigh of relief escaped my airway. “Tristan!” Kye scolded. “Jeez, man.” “Wait. Then what’s wrong with her? Is she fine? Why did she pass out? Why’s she in a coma?” I asked in a rush. “Your wife has been really sick and because she hasn’t been treated for a really long time, it has affected her body. Due to extreme weakness, her body is temporarily shut down. How could anyone have watched her be so sick for such a long time without seeking a doctor? She could’ve lost her life.” “Lost her life?” My eyes widened and my heartbeat increased. “Absolutely. We’ve given her the proper care for proper treatment. She might need to stay in the hospital for a few days or a few weeks, because she’ll need 24/7 assistance with basic things like brushing her teeth, having a bath, eating, and more—” “A few weeks? I can’t let Hazel be away from me for a few weeks, Dr. Peter.” I spat. “It’s Dr. Steve,” he frowned — that explained why he wasn’t the nice doctor I knew— Where the hell was Dr. Peter? “Peter quit. And your wife needs assistance. She has to do almost nothing in order to heal quicker.” “How am I supposed to live without her by my side for the next few weeks?” “It might only take a few days,” he replied abruptly. “Tristan, just let them do their job.” “You can take care of her yourself, which I doubt, since there's work, there's—” “I can do that.” I cut him off. “Won’t you be busy?” He asked with a lifted eyebrow. “No. Not at all.” “Be reasonable and let them do their work, Tristan.” Kye rolled his eyes. “I’ll take a break, I’ll do anything.” I was desperate. Guilt was eating me up pretty bad for watching Hazel fall into such a terrible condition, and it was the least I could do. “We can move her home for home treatment, right?” “Well, that saves us a lot of stress. A nurse will be sent to her for her injections and medication. We’ll move her in the appropriate manner as soon as possible.” He said and turned around. “Tristan, don’t be silly. We have a lot of work to do. You can’t sacrifice that much time, you’ll lose a lot of money. You can earn more money to hire the best nurse to deal with her.” “I feel bad, Kye. You need to know how terrible I feel right now. I feel so irresponsible. I’ve been working too much and neglected my very own wife. I was worried about other things, but not so much about her health. If anything happens to her, do you think I’ll be able to live my life as a normal man anymore?” I tried to explain. He only stared at me blankly, then shook his head. “And who knows? Spending that much time with her might make me understand her even better, like I need to.” ***
