Chapter fourteen - Best friends or lovers

Austin's POV:

I think that Ally and I need to stop getting close. I did this only to see her reaction. It was visible that she was feeling uncomfortable, which meant that the time to confess her feelings hadn't come yet. Maybe one day this will happen. We are working on our project almost every day, and this is enough. I won't lie that I like to work with Ally. I wasn't going to complain if it was another girl, but the fact that I know her helps a lot. Her drawings are very good, and I think that we can make a great story. Up to now, we have made almost half of it. I don't know how long our story will be. We bought a sketchbook, but I don't think that we can use all the pages. Well, we'll see. Maybe other ideas can come to our minds. It's not a lie that I have wondered how Toby and Macy are doing their project. Ally and I haven't seen them for a while. Except in class. The thing is that we were busy, they as well. We need to go out more often. The holidays are after less than two weeks, and they will probably go home. The same as Ally and I. We can take a break, and all of us go out.

I woke up and saw that Ally was sleeping. I won't wake her now. We have classes in the afternoon, so I will go and buy breakfast. I carefully dressed and went into the bathroom. When I was done, I walked out. I went to the nearest diner for food. There weren't many people. Probably because it's only 8:30 am. I need to buy something which won't get cold when I go back to our dorm. After some time, I decided to buy sandwiches and hot chocolate. Later, I went to a*****e to buy marshmallows. I mean who doesn't like them in their hot chocolate. Ok, maybe someone doesn't.

I walked back to our dorm and saw that Ally was still sleeping. I took one of the cups with hot chocolate and put it close to her nose. This must wake her up. Soon she started sniffing, which made it so hard for me not to laugh. Ally opened her eyes and looked at me. I smiled at her, but she didn't return it. Her eyes were on the cup which I was holding. I knew that this would wake her up.

- Good morning. Did you sleep well?

- What is that?

- This is hot chocolate. If you want some, you have to get up.

- From where did you get it?

- I went to buy us breakfast.

- Thank you. Give the cup now. - she said and got up

- Before you start drinking it, I will give you something. I bought marshmallows if you want to put some in your cup.

- I would love to. Thanks.

- This is our breakfast. I hope that you will like it.

- Since you chose it, I bet that it's delicious.

- If you say so.

Both of us were eating in silence. I noticed that Ally was still in sleepy mode. I got up and went to sit next to her. Luckily, she didn't complain. I said that we shouldn't be this close, but I like it. We are getting closer to what we were before. The thing is that it feels weird. I don't know why. In the beginning, when I asked her out, it wasn't that bad. She said yes, and everything was good. Now, I will feel awkward doing it. Maybe it's because we are separated or because some things have changed.

- What do you want us to do today? - Ally asked me

- I was thinking that maybe we could go out with our friends. We haven't been together for a while.

- That's true. All of us were so busy that we didn't find time to go out or do anything together.

- To understand that you like my idea.

- Yes, I do.

After breakfast, both with Ally walked to our friend's dorm. Luckily, both of them were there. I saw that they are working on their project as well. We waited for them to finish with their work and later, we walked out. All of us went to sit under a tree in the backyard. I forgot how good it was to sit with your friends. It's like I haven't seen them in ages.

- Finally, we are together. - I said

- I know. It has been a while. - Macy said with a smile

- These projects are taking our time.

- For sure. Most of the time we spent debating what our story should be about. Let's say that Toby and I had differences.

- Can I know what you decide? - Ally asked

- Well, I wanted a princess, but he wanted a superhero. So we decided to make a story about a princess who is saved by a superhero. I don't know how this will end, but I won't lie that I am having fun. Of course, I am drawing the princess. - she said, and we laughed

- What is your story about? - Toby asked

- We decided our story to be about a girl and a boy who fall for each other.

- I am sure that you will make it perfect. Especially since you know what this feeling is. - Macy said

- Um... yeah. For sure. - Ally said and nodded her head

- I'm sorry. I didn't want to offend you.

- No, you didn't. I just thought of something.

- Do you want us to go for lunch together? We have classes after 1 pm. - Toby suggested

- Yeah, why not? I'm up for it. - I said

- Girls, what do you think? Well, I know that mine will agree.

- Wait! Are you two dating? - Ally asked

- What? No, we don't. I said it because I knew that she would do everything that I suggested to her. We are not dating.

- Yet. - I said, chuckling

- Do you want me to kill you? - Toby asked

- No, I'm good.

We talked for a while, and later all of us went for lunch. During the entire walk up to the diner, Toby had his hand wrapped around Macy's neck. I know that they are best friends, but I have to say that they are very close. I guess that Ally noticed it too because she looked at me and then at them. If I have to be honest, they will look good together. The benefit is that they know each other for a long time, and it will save them the get to know each other part. We told the girls to take a table, why Toby and I order food. The truth is that I wanted to ask him what was going on between him and Macy. Maybe there is nothing, but how am I supposed to know?

- Can I ask you something?

- Sure. Go on.

- What is going on between you and Macy? I know what you will say, but during the walk, it looked like something else.

- I understand what you are saying, but we are just best friends. There is nothing else. Please, don't say this in front of her, because she will get mad at me.

- Why?

- Because she will think that I have told you something to make you think this way.

- Ok, I won't tell her anything.

Soon our food was ready. Toby grabbed it, while I took the drinks. We walked to the girls and in the moment they saw us, both of them stopped talking. It's like they have been talking about us. Maybe Ally has asked Macy about Toby. We put the food and the drinks on the table and started eating. I don't know why I feel so hungry. I ate breakfast in the morning. Well, I guess that boys need more food than girls do.

- Do you guys have plans after the classes? Mostly for tonight. - Ally asked

- No, why? What do you have in mind? - Macy asked as well

- I was thinking that we could do a movie night in our dorm. Well, it could be somewhere else if you want.

- It's not bad. Ok, I'm up for it. Boys, what do you say?

- As long as it's not a girly movie, I can join you too.

- Roommate, what do you say? - Ally asked and looked at me with puppy eyes

- Fine. I will do it, but in the same condition as Toby.

- No problem.

- Yay! We have a double movie date.

- We are not dating. - Macy said

- Neither do we, but this is what it looks like. Moreover, Austin and I do this a lot, so I decide to invite you too.

- Well, thank you for the invitation.

After lunch, all of us went back to our dorms to get ready for the next class. Ally and I walked together. I am starting to think that many things will change between us. In the beginning, we went separate and did most of the things alone. Now, we share everything. I don't know if it was all of this a coincidence, but I like it. I like that Ally and I are getting to where we left off. Well, we are doing it slowly, but I won't lie that this way is better.

We walked up to class, and Macy and Toby were already there. I keep reminding myself that they are only best friends, but what they are doing proves to me the opposite. I looked at Ally, and she understood what I wanted to tell her. I don't know what is going on between them, but I think that they don't know it either. If they could look at it from the outside, both of them would understand what Ally and I are talking about. We are not trying to make them start dating, because I think that they will do it by themselves. Soon the teacher came, and we started the class.

- I hope that all of you are working on your project. Don't forget that before the end of the semester, I have to see them, so make sure that by then you will be ready.

- How long does it have to be? I mean that if we do it in pages, how many do they have to be? - one girl asked

- There isn't an exact number, but make it more than ten. After all, I want to see a good story, not a short one. By the way, you will have to make short stories, but this will be individual, and we'll do this in the second semester. Are there more questions? Ok, in that case, we can start working.

After our last class, Ally and I went to our dorm. We decided to make the movie night in our room. I went to take a shower, while she ordered the room. It won't be me if I don't play games with her. When I was done with my shower, I walked out of the bathroom without a shirt on. She was still ordering the room. I noticed that soon, she would go to my bed. I slightly went there and as I suspected, she bumped into me. It took her time to realize how I looked, but once she did, she looked at me.

- You need to get dressed. Our friends will come soon.

- So? We have some time.

- Now, it's not the time for that.

- And it never will be. - I said and went to get a shirt

- Look, I didn't want to offend you. Only to not do this in front of them.

- Don't worry. I am used to this.

Soon our friends came. The first movie will be chosen by the girls, but the second one, by the boys. After all, we don't want to watch only girly movies. I hope that the girls will keep their promise and won't make us watch this type of movie. The whole time, the girls were snuggling into us. It's not like this is a bad thing. Ally and I used to do this a lot. I have to say that Macy is feeling very comfortable. I wonder when they will realize it.

- Ok, it's our turn. - Toby said

- Girls, you can talk while we choose it.

- What should we watch?

- How about something scary? Not too much, but enough to make us look like heroes.

- I like this idea.

- Girls, we are ready.

I have to say that Ally was keeping it cool. She flinched only once and it was because the scene was very loud. On the other hand, whenever there was a scary scene, Macy was burying her head in Toby's shirt. Ally looked at me, which means that she knows why I picked this movie.

- I'm sorry guys, but this was the worst movie ever. How am I supposed to sleep tonight? - Macy said

- Don't worry. I will be there. After all, we are in one room. Don't forget that we share it.

- Thank god for that.

- Do you want us to go to our dorm?

- Yes, please.

We sent our friends to their dorm and walked back to ours. In the moment we walked inside, Ally looked at me. Don't tell me that I am in trouble. I didn't do anything wrong.

- That wasn't very nice.

- But I understood what I wanted to.

- Which was?

- They are a couple without realizing it.

- Do you realize how stupid this sounds?

- Yes, but think about it.

- All I will think about is how I will cuddle with the pillow.

- Can I join the cuddles?

- You have your own bed.

- But Ally!

- Austin, I said something. This happened only once, and it won't repeat. Now, go to sleep.

- Fine. Good night.

- To you too.

Today I did a good job. I hope that our friends didn't suspect anything. Otherwise, they might get mad at me. Toby and Macy might not be dating, but I feel like something will soon happen between them. Since Ally and I won't do it, at least they can do it for us. Maybe the holidays will help them. After all, they are supposed to be spent with our closest people. I wish that something could happen between Ally and me. Well, I don't need to rush. We have plenty of time for everything.
