I continued to take my clothes off until I was left with nothing but my underwear.
"Stop," he said and I paused my action, "I've seen enough. It's not just your face alone that's ugly, your body isn't even worth looking at."
He eyed me with disgust in his eyes.
"Go and cover up, just looking at you makes me want to vomit." He said and I didn't waste any time, I ran into the bathroom immediately.
Once I locked the door behind me, hot tears started running down my face. I felt humiliated and disgraced.
I really hated my life, I couldn't believe my own parents sold me just to save their company and now, Matt, the only other person I could rely on in this world must hate me now, thinking I betrayed him.
I must have spent too long in the bathroom because Ethan soon started pounding on the door, asking me to come out.
I came out after cleaning my face and making myself look presentable enough, he was seated on the single chair he stood up from a while ago, a glass of whiskey in his hands.
"I'm hungry, go downstairs and prepare something for me to eat." He instructed me.
"But this is an hotel sir." I told him in a quiet voice, my eyes firmly fixed on the floor, I was afraid of making eye contact with him.
"And what if this is an hotel?"
"I don't think they'll allow me into their kitchen to cook, room service usually takes care of that." I clarified.
"Do I look like I care about what you think? I don't care about what you think Avery and for your information, I own this hotel. Now go downstairs and get me something to eat."
Not bothering to raise any argument again, I turned around without saying anything and left the room. It didn't take long before I found the kitchen and when I got inside, it was empty.
I quickly prepared a quick meal for him and took it back to our room. I set the table and Ethan came to sit down to eat.
"Where do you think you're going?" He asked when he saw me making a move to turn around.
"I'm going to get some sleep sir." I told him.
"Did I tell you to leave? Stand right there." He pointed to the space right beside him and took the cutleries on the table and started eating.
When he took the first bite, he spat it out all over my feet, "What is this nonsense? You call this food?" He yelled at me, grabbing the plate and pouring the remaining content all over my head.
"You're sleeping on the sofa and clean this place up before you do." He instructed before leaving and going to where the bed was.
I looked at the mess he had just made and sighed heavily. I didn't give it much thought, I only did as he had instructed, I cleaned the whole place and slept on the sofa.
The rest of the week was just as horrible as my first night here.
While Ethan got to go out and sign business contracts and do other things, he decided to lock me up in the room. Only opening it when he goes out and comes back.
He didn't even allow me to have access to room service, I only ate whenever he had breakfast and dinner. Before I knew it, it was our last day here thankfully.
After having breakfast that morning, I thought Ethan was going to get dressed and leave as he always did, but I was surprised when he stayed back.
There was a knock on the door a few moments later, "Go and get that." He told me without taking his eyes away from the newspaper in his hands.
When I opened the door, I was pushed aside and I saw various people entering the room along with racks of clothes following them, I was confused.
"Mr Blackwood, always a pleasure to have you around." I saw a beautifully dressed lady with a thick french accent hug and peck Ethan on his cheeks.
"Sandra, thank you for coming at such short notice." He greeted her back.
"Always a pleasure to be at your service Mr Blackwood." She said in a manner that implied something else, "How can I be of assistance to you sir?"
"Doll her up." Ethan said, pointing at me.
"May I ask what the occasion is sir?"
"A dinner party." I guess we were going out today, and he hadn't bothered to mention anything about it to me, but what was I expecting?
I could count the number of words he had said to me since I met him on our wedding day.
Sandra moved closer to me and eyed me up and down disgustingly, "We'll have to do a lot of work on this one, but do not worry sir, I won't disappoint you."
Ethan nodded without saying anything again and left us. Sandra had said she would do a lot of work and she did a lot of work indeed.
From bathing me, to scrubbing my skin, washing my hair, giving me facial treatments, she did everything. I felt brand new by the time she was done.
And after five hours, I was ready.
When Ethan came out of the room too, he was ready, dressed in a black tuxedo.
I wasn't expecting him to compliment me on how I looked but it hurt when he didn't say anything and just walked past me, without casting a single glance in my direction.
I followed after him and we got into the car that was waiting for us. Once we got in, the car sped off. When we arrived at our destination, I was shocked.
There were hundreds of camera men standing at the entrance, I had never experienced this before, not even when mum and dad's company was still flourishing, it was nothing this crazy.
"Now listen, the moment we step out of this car, everything you do is being watched, so I expect you to be on your best behaviour. If you dare disgrace me, I will make sure you and your family regret it. Do you understand me?" He threatened me.
"Yes sir, I do." I answered him.
"And make sure you smile, the media must not suspect that any of this is fake." He added before opening the door and getting out.
The rest of the evening was crazy, Ethan was beside me through out, his hands was firmly wrapped around my waist.
He was being so gentle with me, smiling at me at every interval, at some point, I started to believe it was real.
But that didn't last long, not after the incident that happened after.
Ethan had just left my side to talk to someone, I decided to get something to eat.
When I approached the food table, someone bumped into me, causing me to spill my wine all over her. I knew it was her fault but I still apologized.
"Are you blind? Can you not see where you're going?" The enraged lady said.
"I'm sorry ma'am." I apologized, took out my handkerchief and tried to help her clean her dress.
"Get away from me!" She yelled and pushed me, I fell into the food table behind me and all sorts of food poured on me.
I was a mess.
I stood up and attempted to talk but before I could, someone grabbed my wrist and pulled me out of the room.
"How dare you embarrass me like that!" Ethan yelled when we were in a secluded hallway.
"You are such a disgrace." He spat at me.
"But she bumped into me and pushed me." I tried to explain to him but he wasn't ready to listen.
"Can you hear yourself right now? She pushed you? How ridiculous! Get into the car." He commanded and didn't say anything.
"Prepare the jet, we're coming back to New York." He said to someone on the phone and the car sped off.
In less than an hour, we arrived at the airport and boarded the plane and we were back in New York in no time.
As soon as I came down the stairs, lots of paparazzi surrounded us, taking pictures but there was security around me so they couldn't get to me.
"Avery!”
I heard my name and when I looked up, I saw a figure running towards me.
I knew who it was immediately, I could recognise that person from anywhere.
"Matt?" I whispered in disbelief, before I could say anything else, he hugged me.
I tried to step away from him but he held me tight, I heard murmurs all around me and I knew this could lead to a scandal if I didn't act quickly.
When Matt finally let go, he turned to Ethan and before anyone could say or do anything, he swung his fist back and punched Ethan and then, there was silence.
