The congregation howled. Infernal beasts bucked and shrieked. A dozen winged demons launched into the air, circling the cathedral’s endless ceiling like vultures on fire. Below, the hybrids began to writhe, grinding against the stone, hands clawing at their skin, overcome with ecstasy or madness. Scindra stood to the side, head bowed, but eyes shining with something close to envy. Havana barely noticed her. She was high on power. Drunk on it.
