9 Feisty Fairies Something about being in a car with another person—in that small space, no ability to escape, the scenery moving along at a good clip beyond the windows—made it the perfect time to share one’s innermost thoughts and feelings. I twiddled my thumbs a bit, wondering if Alex would bring up his counseling with Phillipa. He didn’t. More scenery passed. He still didn’t mention it. More scenery, and I started to wonder if I should. I was trying so hard to be patient. When I’d become a vampire, my impulse control had been shot to heck, the filter between my thoughts and mouth gone. Patience only came with great effort these days, and the verbal filter, well, clearly that was a work in progress. But even if I had to work hard at it, Alex was worth the effort of patience. S
