CHAPTER FOURTEEN

ANDREW; I know this is not right to do, but I have just seen a vehicle parking outside your plot. The car is familiar. 'How do you know my plot, Andrew?' Kayla asks herself, but this is not the time to ask questions. KAYLA; Whose car? ANDREW; It is Joe's. KAYLA; Are you sure? And where are you? ANDREW; Don't worry about that, are you alone in the house? KAYLA; No, I am with Mercy. ANDREW; Okay, since we don't know Joe's intentions, don't tell Mercy anything. Just pretend you are asleep, I will text you when I see anything. Andrew hangs up. Kayla is terrified. 'Did I do a mistake by hosting my cousin?' she asks herself and walks back from the washroom. "Who were you talking with? Is everything okay?" Mercy asks. She has noticed that Kayla's mood has changed. "Everything is good," Kayla responds hesitantly. She is becoming doubtful over her cousin's intentions. "I think we can sleep, Vincent is already asleep," Mercy says. 'Why do you want us to sleep?' Kayla asks herself. Mercy takes out a blanket and sleeps beside little Vincent. "Good night," Kayla says and goes to switch off the lights, then lays on a separate mattress, waiting for Andrew to alert her. ***** 5 hours earlier "Okay, see you tomorrow then, waiting to hear from you about my request," Andrew says and gets into his car. 'She is such an angel.' he says to himself and ignites the car engine. Since Kayla joined them at work, Andrew has been falling for her every day. Although he is a married person with two kids, Andrew wants Kayla for himself. He is, however, not sure whether the feelings he has for Kayla are real or mere infatuation. 'I need to know where she stays.' he tells himself and drives behind Kayla, who is on her phone as she walks. It is while still following on Kayla at a safe distance, that he sees her meet with Mercy, who is holding Vincent. 'Why are they meeting?' he asks himself. He continues following them until they arrive at Kayla's place. 'Why is Mercy here? I don't like her.' he tells himself. He remembers the good times they shared with Mercy many years ago. Although she was a sweet person, Andrew did not like her character. There is a specific day she slapped him for not remembering her birthday. "How dare you forget my birthday?" She asked him after the slap. "Did you slap me?" Andrew asked. "Yes, and I will slap you again if you don't remember my birthday by tomorrow morning." Mercy said. That is when Andrew emotionally withdrew himself from her. She was toxic. 'What is she doing with Kayla?' Andrew asks himself after seeing them get into the house. Kayla already told him that Mercy is married to Joe. 'Mercy needs to go back to her husband and leave Kayla alone.' he tells himself and parks the car outside Kayla's plot. He wants to know what Mercy is up to. While in the car, Andrew takes a nap. He wakes up later and notices another car parked beside his. On keenly looking at it, he realizes that it belongs to Joe. 'What is happening? Has Joe come for Mercy?' he asks himself. He then decides to wait and see if Joe is going to pick his wife. Three hours later, no one is showing up, and Joe's car is still parked outside. 'I don't want Kayla to know that I followed her, but she needs to know Joe is outside here.' Andrew tells himself. Deep in his heart, he cares about Kayla, and he knows that Kayla has bad blood with Joe. 'She needs to know.' he says and decides to text Kayla. ANDREW; I know this is not right to do, but I have just seen a vehicle parking outside your plot. The car is familiar. ***** Kayla pretends to be sleeping, but she is scared. 'What does Joe want?' she asks herself. Under the blankets, Kayla notices that Mercy is using her phone. Her heart starts beating fast. As if she has seen Kayla looking at her, Mercy switches her phone off and pretends to be sleeping. 'I don't trust you. No way.' Kayla tells herself and stands up, walks towards the door, and turns the lights on. "What is happening?" Mercy asks as she removes the blanket from her head. "So you were not asleep?" Kayla asks. "Why?" Mercy responds and stands up as well. "What is Joe doing outside?" Kayla asks. "My goodness! Is he outside?" Mercy asks and starts walking towards Kayla. She looks terrified. ***** 'Lights on?' Andrew wonders. He thought Kayla had slept. He reaches for his phone and texts Kayla. ANDREW; What is happening? I thought you slept. After sending the text, just on time, he sees Joe getting out of the car with 2 other people and walk into Kayla's plot. ANDREW; Hey, Joe is coming with two other people. Are you okay? He texts Kayla. ***** "Yes, what is he doing there?" Kayla asks. Before Mercy responds, a text message notification pops up from Andrew. ANDREW; What is happening? I thought you slept. As she tries to type a reply, Mercy grabs the phone and smashes it. "I am sorry, cousin," Mercy says and sprays some liquid stuff on Kayla's eyes. She goes to open the door and comes back to a staggering Kayla. Two men led by Joe get into the house. "Leave her to me," Joe says and holds Kayla's hands. "Mercy, why are you doing this?" Kayla asks. "I am sorry, I had to do it," Mercy says. One of the two men produces a white towel and wraps it around Kayla's head. "Mercy please, don't let them kill me." Kayla cries out to Mercy, who is keeping Vincent busy so that the little boy does not see what is happening. ***** When Kayla takes long to reply, Andrew immediately senses danger. He quickly gets out of his car and rushes in. He gets into Kayla's house and finds two men tying Kayla's legs. "I knew it!" Andrew says and looks at Joe. "Hey, you can't stop this. The process has begun. Step back." Joe says. "Wait, what are you doing here Andy?" Mercy asks. "Not at my watch, you either let the girl free, or I'm calling the police," Andrew says. Joe looks confused. One of the two men tries to confront Andrew, but he meets a hard punch on the face which sends him down on the floor. "Come on, this is my life!" Joe says. "I don't care, let her free," Andrew says as he walks closer to Kayla. "You made a mistake," Mercy says and sprays the liquid thing to Andrew's eyes, but he is quick to close his eyelids, the spray didn't get into his eyes. "Mercy, should I tell your husband about us? Does he know that Vincent is my son?" "What did you say?" Joe asks...
